Tips for Using the PowerShot SD600 or Digital Cameras in general?

Since I just purchased my Canon PowerShot SD600, I've been wondering what kind of things I can do with it. What kind of settings produce better pictures for each environment.

I'm familiar with the ISO settings (lower is better, but requires you to place the camera on something) and Exposure settings (long shutter speeds, more light). I also have a copy of Noise Ninja and I think I know the basics in creating HDR images.

Are there are tips that you guys may have for taking scenary pictures, closeups (using macro), or any other kind? I'm not clear on AE lock or controlling the flash exposure...Is selecting Auto for light balancing fine, or is there an advantage to the custom setting (Evaluate White Balance), or any of the others? What scenarios would I change the focus from Evaluative to Center Weighted Average or Spot? What is Slow Synchro for the flash, and does Auto Red-Eye Reduction really work, is it even needed? What kind of shots would I use the infinity setting for?

I'd appreciate it if anyone could help me out with these questions :)

You need to read your manual first if you want to try other settings than auto mode. This way, you will gain basic facts.

By the way, you won't need to put your camera on something by increasing your iso level. Increasing iso level only make your sensor more sensitive to light since increasing iso level i used when ambiant light is not enough to get a good picture. Perhaps, lowering shutter speed will make your picture less sharp because you will shake the camera with your hands. Even breath will make your camera shake and you will see it in the picture at some low shutter speed.
