The audio jack on my MacBook is glowing red and I have no sound!

it's glowing red because you're audio port also doubles as an optical audio connector. If you have nothing plugged into the port then sound is supposed to come out through the built in speakers instead. It sounds to me as though the computer could be 'stuck' thinking that something is plugged into that port....

Try giving that computer a restart, if that doesn't work, try giving that computer a PRAM reset.

I'll try restarting once I've finished watching this film. Half way through with about an hour an a half to go and I'm not stopping now :p Speakers will have to suffice for the time being.

If you don't mind me asking though, what on earth is an optical audio connector? I did set an audio delay of -250ms on the film in VLC as it was a bit out of sync - that's not anything to do with it is it?

Just keep plugging and unplugging your earphone or whatever until the sensor works again. Happened to me before, therefore I know what your problem is.

I've had the same issue on a couple of occasions too. I found pulling out my earphones slower tends to help.

Yep I have experienced this too. I took it to the apple store and they said they would replace my logic board, but I couldn't give it to them at the time and said I would come back if it didn't solve itself.

I kept plugging and unplugging headphones at different pressured angles until it fixed itself.
