so i went ahead and overclocked and tested my core2duo E6550 at different speeds.

here are the results:

@ normal speed 2.33ghz

temp: 46c idle

temp: 58-59c under 1 minute 30 second stress test

@ overclock speed 2.61ghz

temp: 47-48c idle

temp: 65c under 1 minute 30 second stress test

@ overclock speed 2.75ghz

temp: 48c idle

" blue screen during stress test"

so i opted to go @ 2.65ghz

temp: 45-48c idle

temp: 66-67c under 2 minute and 30 second stress test.

seems to be stable at the 2.65ghz so far. i do have good cooling / air flow in my system. i also have a thermaltake blue orb 2 copper heatsink / fan for the cpu.

my question is what is a normal cpu idle and under full stress temp ? im afraid to overclock any further since i had the BSOD. it's a shame because i have read online people have gotten my cpu model up past 3ghz.

ive attached a photo of cpu-z so you can see my settings.

That seems pretty hot for a small overclock I don't personally have a E6550 but a friend does which is clocked at 3.6GHz with a Tuniq Tower 120 for cooling and after 8 hours stress testing his is only at 59-62c.

i don't think i would be able to overclock to anything over 3ghz with my current ram and board. im more or less just wondering about the temps. right now overclocked to 2.65ghz. idle its running at 45c. is that a pretty decent temp ? it's my first oc attempt and i don't want to ruin my cpu or system. good thing is no more BSOD.

I have my 6550 at 2.8 (400x7) stock cooler, but I did drop the Vcore some. Idles around 37c 58c under load running Orthos for 6 hours.

EDIT: You might want to make sure that the heatsink is seated properly, because those temps look a little high. Also did you put any thermal paste on it (too little/too much will also make a difference)?

Please tell me you are going to stress test it longer than that? I'm not trying to be mean, I just want you to make sure you have a completely stable system before going ahead (if you wish too).
