The 2008 remake about an alien and his indestructible robot will star (Keanu Reeves) as Klaatu, Jennifer Connelly as Helen Benson, (Jaden Smith) as Jacob, and (Kathy Bates). Gort has not been cast at this time and will most likely be created using FX.

The remake of (The Day the Earth Stood Still) will supposedly remain true to the original movie, however there is a chance the remake will more likely remain true to the short story upon which the 1951 movie is based.

Fail in the happening?

I picked up the original DVD from the local library. I had watched it before but I showed it to my son. IMDB ranks it as one of the best 250 movies of all time.

My son enjoyed it despite it being in black and white and obviously portraying a man inside a robot costume.

The words "Klaatu Barada Nikto" originate from this movie. You might have heard them in Army of Darkness (or any number of other sources).

Depends. Are you into classic movies or you could careless? It's one of the greatest movies ever made imo, and to me, yes totally worth seeing.

Ok, thanks, I'll look for it. I don't much watch black and white films but some are good and I don't have to be thrilled by special effects so a good story counts a lot to me :D

Funny I just saw the original a few weeks ago on AMC or some similar channel and was shocked how much I really liked it. As for Keanu Reeves, if you've recently watched the original you would see where this could really work, and doesn't mean it HAS to be all action.

At least Keanu is playing a role where his lack of personality and monotone voice won't be a problem. Considering he is robot-like in life, I'm sure he won't have much of a problem pulling off this role.

I can't say that I'm very enthusiastic about seeing a remake of this though, unless of course it encourages people to see the original. It will be a huge disappointment if they try to remake this in a big blockbuster hollywood style.
