just released today is the new version of TrueCrypt v6.0

p.s. but the most notable feature i think is for people with dual or quad core CPU's at it supports those now and actually runs 4 times faster on a quad core vs single core from what they claim.

hmmm for someone that uses this app fairly lightly, is it really worth while selecting the "disable windows paging file" option (ticked by default). I've always been lead to believe disabling that wasn't the greatest of ideas in the world.

your fine.. you can leave the paging file enabled... those comments about disabling page file etc... are usually only for the extremely sensitive stuff as the average joe if your just trying to hide some files that you would rather not get out but if it did, it would not be end of the world for you then you can just use the app as is.

i just use TrueCrypt and create a file container... i.e. make a file to whatever size you want (say 700MB) and you can load that file (say you name it 'encrypted.iso') into TrueCrypt and windows explorer will see it as another drive letter which you can then copy files to it etc like a normal hard drive and when done just dismount it and your good and no one can see the files.... so i would say if you got average joe's or anything close to average joe's messing with with your pc... your data is pretty safe with the method i was explaining above and aint got to worry about em seeing it.

or as PrimeXX said in simpler terms... "disabling page file is not needed for the vast majority of people who aren't keeping REALLY sensitive information." ;)

6.0a has been released.

Changes:

  • On systems where certain inappropriately designed chipset drivers were installed, it was impossible to encrypt the system partition/drive. This will no longer occur
  • Other minor bug fixes
