alchemist94
Hi, I installed Windows XP over Vista and its going really slow, even if I set the visual stuff to best performance. When I move windows or try to scroll down on a webpage it lags. Why? By the way I couldn't find an XP forum so I put the topic in here. You probably need to install drivers, specifically graphics drivers. Unlike Vista, XP will not give you usable performance out of the box without them. You replaced a good operating system with an old, out of date operating system. You likely would've gotten better performance if you just left Vista on there, but since that's no longer an option, install all your drivers. It MIGHT help. I thought Vista was good too when I first got it. The reason I replaced it is the computer wouldn't start up because Vista screwed up for the 6TH TIME. The Vista disk didn't come with the computer and it's out of warranty. Thats why I replaced it with a better, older out of date operating system. Budious
XP SP3 is a solid operating system, despite the other opinions here. Make sure to install your third party drivers for the graphics device, and also the chipset drivers. Even with the proper video drivers, a system with an AGP bus can run slowly if the proper motherboard drivers are not installed. piehouserat
slow format and re-install xp. installing a different os on top of another os is a no no in my book - will almost certainly result in poor performance.
