Got a new HDTV? Post it here.

Recommended Posts

Since people have been starting threads announcing their new HDTVs, I decided to create this thread so people can tell everyone about their new HDTV they just bought. I’m hoping this would be a fun thread and that no flame war would erupt.

So, did you just buy a new HDTV? Tell us the following:

1. What brand/model did you get? Is it an LCD or Plasma?

2. What size is it? Are you satisfied with the size?

3. What convinced you to purchase this particular model?

4. What do you like best about your TV?

5. What don't you like about your LCD?

6. What "Feature(s)" do you wish your TV had?

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your TV?

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your TV?

9. Was it worth the money?

10. Any additional information that you want to add?

Note- If you've owned an HDTV for a while and you still would like to tell us about it, then feel free to join in.

I’ll start:

1. Samsung LN32A450 LCD

2. 32”; I’m 100% satisfied with the size.

3. The excellent reviews and great price tag convinced me to buy this model.

4. The picture quality is what I like best.

5. What I like least is that the QAM tuner becomes faulty when I unplug the set. However, this can be easily fixed by resetting the TV.

6. I like all the features on my TV. There’s nothing more that I want.

7. The biggest surprise was the amazing picture. It was a lot better than I expected.

8. The only issue was the QAM tuner problem I mentioned in #4.

9. It was so worth the money.

10. The only thing I have to add is that this is an amazing TV. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking into getting a mid-size HDTV

I've had mine for a bit, but here goes...

1. Samsung HL-6187w - DLP

2. 61" - Perfect for HTPC, 360 and everything else for my living room.

3. Did various research and it was the best DLP at the time before LCDs and Plasmas became so cheap.

4. 1080p resolution, using it as a my PC, which in 2006 was somewhat rare

5. Glare from the sun, poor viewing angles

6. More HDMI ports, QAM tuner

7. Didn't really have any

8. Lamp burned out after about one year, but was replaced from Samsung free of charge via warranty.

9. At the time, yes - I got it $1000 under what most stores had it on sale for. Now, not a chance :)

10. Calibrated it myself, best thing you can do to any HDTV for an optimal picture.

1. What brand/model did you get? Is it an LCD or Plasma?

Samsung HP-S4253 42-Inch Plasma HDTV

2. What size is it? Are you satisfied with the size?

42". I want to get something a little bigger.

3. What convinced you to purchase this particular model?

Good combination of price, size, and quality.

4. What do you like best about your TV?

Has enough HDMI ports for what I need and has a good picture.

5. What don't you like about your TV?

Some discoloration (blue pixels or something), burn-in problems, 1024x768 720p resolution

6. What "Feature(s)" do you wish your TV had?

Wish it had blacker blacks and whiter whites, more HDMI ports, 120Hz refresh rate, full 1920x1080 1080p resolution

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your TV?

I couldn't adjust the bars on the left and right side of a 4:3 image to be black, they stay an extremely bright gray. Very annoying.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your TV?

Some burn-in, speakers occasionally don't work, some image problems (flickering blue pixels all across the display)

9. Was it worth the money?

Probably. I'd much rather have an HDTV than not.

10. Any additional information that you want to add?

Not really. Other than the few problems I mentioned above, it's worked well for over two years.

1. What brand/model did you get? Is it an LCD or Plasma?

Samsung LE40F86BDX. It's an LCD.

2. What size is it? Are you satisfied with the size?

40", perfect as the previous 32" I had in the room felt too small.

3. What convinced you to purchase this particular model?

It's picture, features and reading reviews on it.

4. What do you like best about your TV?

The picture quality especially when using 1080p@24Hz from my HTPC.

5. What don't you like about your LCD?

The TBE and occasional slow down effect that occurs using the 100Hz feature (I rarely use it anyway) and on interlaced sources such as Sky HD 1080i.

6. What "Feature(s)" do you wish your TV had?

I wish they would let you upgrade the firmware yourself without calling them out, that's surely why they put the USB port in aside from the photos.

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your TV?

The initial size of it actually haha, but the PQ was a great upgrade from my previous LE32R73BD.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your TV?

Just the TBE and slowdown effect I see maybe once a month. Humbars can appear at 24Hz if the backlight is turned up but I usually have the backlight low at 2 anyways.

9. Was it worth the money?

Absolutely.

10. Any additional information that you want to add?

Very glad I jumped in and got this model, there maybe 1 or 2 minor niggles but I think it's a great TV for me otherwise. I love the black glossy effect to.

Just picked up my first HDTV this very evening :)

1. What brand/model did you get? Is it an LCD or Plasma?

Sony KDL-40W4000 and a Sony BDP-S550 Blu Ray Player.

2. What size is it? Are you satisfied with the size?

Bloody hell yes! I had planned to get a 37" but a friend said always get the next size up.. so I did :)

3. What convinced you to purchase this particular model?

I wanted LCD for sure. I looked into 40" models and a friend advised that this model got excellent reviews. Did my own research and sure enough it got excellent reviews from lots of major players. I liked the design and apparent ease of use.. so that sold me really!

4. What do you like best about your TV?

It makes me feel like I finally moved into the next century for TV/video playback!

5. What don't you like about your LCD?

The cost...

6. What "Feature(s)" do you wish your TV had?

Nothing yet - it does everything I think I'll need for now!

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your TV?

Just how ridiculously large it looks in my lounge

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your TV?

None yet - other than a lack of HDMI cables in the boxes.. so I need to go pay out to get some :(

9. Was it worth the money?

Only time will tell...

10. Any additional information that you want to add?

Nope :)

1. What brand/model did you get? Is it an LCD or Plasma?

I got the Sony KDL-40W4500, and obviously, it's an LCD! After my previous experiences with plasma, and not stupid enough to go for another one! :D

2. What size is it? Are you satisfied with the size?

40". Not too satisfied, as it's a downgrade from my previous TV's 50" plasma in terms of size.

3. What convinced you to purchase this particular model?

Searched around for a while, and ended up taking the dive thanks to a recommendation from The Gadget Show.

4. What do you like best about your TV?

The quality is superb, and the 100Hz MotionFlow feature is great at most times, although other times, it looks too artificial.

5. What don't you like about your LCD?

Nothing!

6. What "Feature(s)" do you wish your TV had?

None, everything's there! 3 HDMI ports, component port, audio ports for my surround sound; perfect!

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your TV?

How awesome the 100Hz MotionFlow feature was when I first switched it on!

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your TV?

None so far!

9. Was it worth the money?

Got it at Comet for about ?1,200, and considering how overpriced Sony TVs usually are, I think it's great value!>

10. Any additional information that you want to add?

Umm... buy this TV if you care about having a good set for HD viewing and gaming!>

Actually AB, it costed nothing. :D Let me explain. Our previous previous TV was a Samsung plasma. That developed a fault where pixels were flying all over the place in dark scenes. Comet kindly agreed to let us replace it with a new model TV of the same value, which in this case was ?2,000!:DD So my parents decided on the newest Samsung plasma, then guess what: it developed the same fault. This time, we had a struggle in getting a rebate. In the end, they did agree, although we lost ?500 due to the insurance. So we got ?1,500 to spend in Comet. And under my (and The Gadget Show's) recommendation, they got the Sony LCD for ?1,200. We could have got a 46" model if we spent a hundred or two extra, but my parents want to keep the ?300 back for an emergency, which may come very soon, as our washing machine is nearly on the way out&:D3; :D

Ahh, didn't see that! :D Actually, it's a DLP TV, which is basically the same technology used in projectors. That explains the low price. I didn't even know you could get a 1080p one! Then again, you can probably get a 1080p CRT TV, as mine is 1080i, and it's only 32".

The only problem I have gotten so far is the picture blanks out for a split second. Has happened a few times but I've gotten used to it and it doesn't happen frequently.

At $800, yes, very worth it. I'll be able to hook up a Blu Ray to it by HDMI soon enough.

10. Any additional information that you want to add?

I got it at a cheaper price (or at least it was when it first came out a year ago).

That doesn't sound normal. You might want to consider exchanging that.

Ah, you won't notice any difference between 1080p and 720p on a 32". I love it. For a 720p, it has an amazing picture. I wouldn't trade it for any other TV.
