This window pops up when i try to install the Windows 7 version of HP Printer drivers

16m7ry8.png

Is there any way to bypass that (OS version check), coz i have Windows 7 RC & not the RTM.

W7 doesnt automatically install all the HP PSC 1402 driver.

Scan functions are working from W7, but the print functions are not working.

Keep in mind that you should NOT expect HP to support your use of these drivers in the Release Client.

Use the Microsoft Application Verifier (v4). Download, install, run. Add application "HPZchl01.exe", found in the setup folder under the folder where you extracted the installer files. Under Compatability, check HighVersionLie. Righ click on HighVersionLie and select properties. Change build number to 7600. Save. Keep the Verifier app open and run the HP installer (setup.exe) from the folder where the files where extracted. (If you rerun the full installer it will create a new folder to extract new files and defeat the purpose) It should proceed as normal. I still had a problems with it detecting my network printer but I was able to work around the problem by installing the USB driver then using the option to change to the network configuration after installing.

This thread is over two weeks old, so chances are he's resolved it on his own now.

If not, he should just go download the Vista drivers. I used these back on the RC.

Not that i need to justify posting useful information but... HP is just now releasing the Win 7 drivers for many products, mine became available yesterday for the first time, so I felt this information could help others that will just now be running into this problem just as I did. (it took me a couple hours to sort through) If I had found the solution posted elsewhere, then I might not have taken the time to register and post in your forum.

I'm curious. How come you discourage my posting? Not a very friendly response to my first post in your forums considering I posted useful information.

thanks for the info MajorEvent :)

i'll use this (your method) for my desktop.

i d/led the vista drivers for the RC, now i've got retail Windows 7 (laptop) :D

btw, is there anyway of adding custom image/icon for the printer.

the one in "Devices & Printers" looks similar to my printer, but i want to add the exact model :D

I'm not. Your advice was good and more correct answer for his actual question, and you shouldn't stop posting. I was just pointing out that the thread is fairly old, and that installing the Vista driver is somewhat simpler and good enough for a pre-release version that will expire soon anyway.

Also, it's not my forum in any way, so if I'm being an idiot, just ignore me and keep on posting!

My old Epson doesn't seem to be getting x64 drivers and there were some problems printing with it under Win7 x64 RC1 so I just purchased the HP Officejet 6500 e706n wireless AIO (US$130 @ Newegg, com). Great features at a great price for anyone looking for an all-in-one printer. :) When I checked HP they noted new software would be released toward the end of November for Win7. I was happy to see the new software appear yesterday but I was pretty annoyed to see that message you showed in your first post preventing me from installing. As I indicated it took a couple hours to sort it out so I searched for a post with the terms "HP printer driver win 7 rc" and it brought me here.

I imagine there is a way to change the picture, probably by hacking the registry, but you would probably need images with the check mark and a red X as well (at least three separate images) for it to work right. I can't help you with that one, sorry.

Strange place this neowin, no one posted these solutions to your problem until they come out of the woodwork to criticize me for posting a direct solution to your specific question. :/

The reason posts flood in on a post that was previously ignored is because it appears in the "latest forum activity" box, which makes people notice it.

Also, you're being a little too thin-skinned for the internet. All other people have done in the thread is suggested simpler ways to get printing going (by just installing the Vista driver).

Neowinian Senior hdood

As a Neowinian Senior, don't you feel that you represent this forum in your postings to a newbie here? IOW, you really don't think your posting to others impact how they feel about the attitudes of the people here? :(

    • Close, but it is for any application starting, not just during boot time. In fact, it probably will not improve boot time at all because during a boot, the CPU is already boosting, so a pre-boost wouldn't change anything. I agree that it isn't exciting (especially considering every other OS already does it), but it is a good thing, even if they are just playing catch up.
    • Any so called performance increase will be in milliseconds, which nobody will actually notice in real world usage.
    • All it does is use the CPU more efficiently during boot to speed up boot times. That's it. Yawn....
    • It's not a one or the other kind of thing. Software should run efficiently, and the operating system should appropriately manage the CPU clocks. You could have the best most optimized software on earth, and it will still run faster if the CPU does a better job of boosting as needed. All this is doing is pre-boosting the CPU based on user actions, instead of waiting for the normal detection mechanism to kick in. If the OS knows it is about to need more CPU, why shouldn't it use that knowledge? It's the same idea of downshifting before passing someone, instead of just burying your foot into the peddle and waiting for the transmission to figure out what you want to do.
