Now that we're getting Windows 11 and things are starting to change up more than the past few years with Windows 10, I un-pinned the old Windows 10 thread and started this one. With the leaked build and the event coming on the 24th things are getting interesting once more.

Yesterday I noticed that Core Isolation and and core security information are missing from Device security. Updated 5 PCs, all 5 PCs are fully windows 11 compatible with TPM2.0, Secure boot and everything... and all 5 that I upgraded so far, have the same exact issue. Windows Security says I don't have standard hardware security, while MS info shows that its running. I found similar issues in feedback hub, but those complaints where from 22200 (21H2) build from long time ago, there are few people complaining about the new 22621 too. TPM info MSinfo shows the security tools are runni…

Issues with tabbed File Explorer
by xMorpheousx416- 2 replies

Okay... back when we had to use Vivetool to bring forth tabbed Explorer, I ran into two issues. One, doesn't really bother me... the other, however, is a system killer. The first one is just a UI blemish.. in the Copy To/ Move To dialog boxes. A black line that moves randomly, but for the most part stays near the top (pictured below). The other.. this one kills me. When I actually use tabs, and have either more than one open for a single drive.. or just two open and they have one drive in one, and the other hosting another... when I go to close Explorer with the tabs still open, the mouse will disappear and the keyboard becomes completely useless. …

I'm on Windows 11 Build 22621.160 and the photos app keeps crashing when I open it from the start menu or when I tried to go to the settings section inside the app. I can view photos normally by clicking on the image in files explorer. I've tried Get-AppxPackage commands like Reset, Remove and reinstall another appxbundle from rg store, tried reinstalling the NET.Native.Framework.2.2 too.

I did a clean install of Windows 11 22H2 using the release preview ISO. However, as soon as I join the domain at my work, I seem to lose the ability to drag items to Taskbar to bring a window to focus. I have to use ALT+TAB while holding the file to be able to drag it to the requisite window. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? There are no such issues on Windows 10 even when on the domain network. I thought Build 22621 would finally allow me to have that functionality back but I'm totally stumped as to what might be causing this. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if I can provide any additional informat…

2022.14-01 11.05.17.mp4 Is it just me or are others having the same results? VMWare Workstation > Windows 11 Dev Channel (vanilla setup). VM in focus and adjusting volume with my keyboard, well you can see above. 2022.14-01 11.18.14.mp4 The above is when doing the same thing in a Beta VM (build 22000.376) on the same machine/setup and as you can see the volume slider works fine.

New App Picker in Windows 11

Not sure if this has been discussed before, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything. Anyway, as it is the case for many Windows 11 Dev channel builds, there are sometimes hidden features that Microsoft has decided to not yet show. This time, there's a new App Picker that can be enabled in Windows 11 Build 22563. The App Picker is that small pop up window that comes up when you attempt to open a file of a type which is not associated with any application in your system. This App picker allows you to select which app to use to open this file. The current App Picker app has not been updated since the Windows 8 era, and it appears that it wil…

Enable webcam in your Windows 11 VirtualBox VM

I found this topic while looking around to see if I could get Windows Hello working in the VM https://scribles.net/using-webcam-in-virtualbox-guest-os-on-windows-host/ it is not possible. At the very least you can get the webcam working but it will not register for Windows Hello face recognition. One thing I came across is that after you install the Extensions, you will need to reboot the guest OS if it is already running, only then can the webcam be added.

My system: Nothing Fancy Core i5 10600, Gigabyte Z490 Vision G, 32 GB DDR4 RAM, Nvidia RTX 3080, 500 GB Samsung 970 Evo Plus No issue with TPM after enabling PTT in Bios F20 I did a fresh install using ISO making script from uupdump.net The initial install is still Vista Era and hasn't been changed much. This sets you up for things to expect. On booting for the 1st time for OOBE (out of box experience), the initial setup wizard appears to be well done with minimal configuration inputs being asked. I would have loved to set the name of my PC right there itself. Now comes to caveats: The new explorer has a lot of limitatio…

I have done a slight upgrade that pertains to Windows 11. I bought a TPM module for my Gigabyte board GIGABYTE GC-TPM2.0_S for €13.99 I will be installing it today. But my board already had the software level TPM. A module is safer because it doesn't reset with BIOS updates or if the battery is removed. My setup is fully compliant with Windows 11: Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Pro Wi-Fi Intel i9-9990K 32GB DDR4 G Skill Ripjaws (2x16) KFA2 2070 RTX SUPER

I have a pc that burned the motherboard, and I couldn't put the hd on another pc to boot, I just put it as a secondary and copy the files, at least I was able to recover the files, because the motherboard died, but the hd kept working. Examples: If the motherboard burns, usually you will have to buy another motherboard the same for the hd to work or have and or make backup. In case the main ssd of the system burns, it is generally good to have all your files copied in one hd, and even another one kept as a backup in the closet. How to facilitate the recovery and backup of files from the hd, and if the main ssd or hd is with programs, settings, book…

Folders on the Windows 11 Start Menu
by nytiger73- 0 replies

I just did an upgrade from Windows 10 to 11. One thing I like to do is organize my Start Menu with folders so that I can organize my programs. This used to be quite easy in Win 10. I'd right click on a program and click on More and then click on Open File Location. From here you can make all the edits you want. You can create folders, delete them and move stuff around as you see fit. This doesn't seem to be the case in Win 11 unless I am missing something. Those options are there, but when I go to look for my newly created folders under All Apps on the Win 11 Start Menu, it's not there. Yet, when I navigate to it, it is. Does anyone else have this issue? I know …

Windows 11 battery icon

Maybe I'm just missing something but how do you hide the battery icon in windows 11? I swear in the original builds you could. First you are probably going to say why would you want to hide that? well maybe because it's showing on my desktop! Windows detects my UPS as a battery and shows me that icon non-stop, I don't want to see it but I still want to have my system go to sleep if the UPS battery is getting low during an outage. Did they move these settings? Or just get rid of them thinking no one uses a battery but mobile people? Also why doesn't the battery icon show you when it's plugged in anymore? I used to look at tha…

This was a clean install from the official windows 11 ISO

[all of the following is said, fully knowing that this is beta software and subject to change. I'm saying this considering the apparent release is impending, Microsoft has very little time to make big changes, if they plan on providing a final release at the end of the year. I'll be very impressed if this is fixed prior to final release, but still acknowledge it could happen, but they appear (and rightly so at this point in development if they plan to release in a few months) to be primarily bug fixing right now, not implementing features] OK, so I understand the new Start Menu is quite polarising, if it works for you, absolutely fantastic. Can I live with it …

Windows 11 app updates hanging

Unfortunately it appears just as with it's predecessors the Windows 11 app store has a difficult time with simple app updates as I've watched the circle of nothingness not move in the next hour in the attached. Is there a way to flush all apps it's auto attempting to install?

Strange …. Windows 11 Insider

Hey y’all. I have Windows 11 Preview installed on my laptop that I got last year. Looks awesome. I like the new blue login screen. The strange thing is, my laptop have a Core i7 6500-U (think it’s Skylake). Is this supported? And another weird thing is, I turned on Insider via Settings last month and it initially barked up a msg “This PC is not supported.” Well, I checked it at 1pm earlier this afternoon (it’s 5:21 when I typed this) and it became available for me.

Weird Windows 11 Post Install issue

So I've recently just attempted to upgrade to Windows 11 via the Dev channel, while the upgrade completes I'm left with a weird issue. At the login screen I pop in my pin as normal and then I'm left waiting for almost 5 mins before I'm presented with the desktop. Here is where the issue comes in. I have no desktop wallpaper, just a black desktop. Start Menu and Action Centre won't open. I have the old Start button and new icons. The only apps I can open as the ones I have pinned to my taskbar and via the Store. I have the new Settings app, rounded corners and new File Explorer that's about it. I can't seem to find a solution…

Win 11 preview in virtual box?

Has anyone got W11 Preview to install in virtual box as an upgrade from windows 10? I had a VM that had Windows 10 pro installed, switched it to insider and it immediately told me it's not compatible with windows 11... I was able to install the leaked ISO just fine in a VirtualBox VM, I can also install a build ISO of the windows 11 preview just fine as a clean install, just not the insider upgrade
