Audio issue with Windows 7 on my LG Laptop

Recommended Posts

Hi All.

I have an LG laptop. It came with Vista when I bought in a couple of years ago.

Lately I have installed Windows 7 Professional on it. Clean install not an upgrade.

As soon as the installation was finished, I have noticed that I lost the laptop's audio.

In the device management screen, everything looks OK. No issues or conflicts.

The Audio card and speakers seem to be OK. No updates available.

I assumed that it was a driver issue, although it does not say seem like it in the device manager.

I contacted LG, and they said that they don't support Windows 7 on my laptop model (S1) yet.

And I accepted the fact that I don't have audio.

But today something strange happened! When I turned on the laptop this morning I was able to hear the Windows Start Chime. I tried to run some MP3s and some youtube pages and I was able to hear the audio without any issues.

I had no idea how the issue was solved.

But now it is back! No Audio at all. Nothing is muted, all the levers are on the maximum. But still. I can hear nothing!

What can the issue be? Is there a way to trouble shoot it?

Thanks.

Right-click the speaker in the tray, Playback devices, Communications tab, tick "Do Nothing". This may not be the cause of your problem, but I have doubts about this feature's reliability; it's supposed to mute/lower other sounds when you're using telephony/conferencing apps such as messengers, Skype, etc.

I'm sorry to hear about your problem. I'm really not sure what to add. It's a shame that LG doesn't have updated drivers out yet. I hope it gets resolved soon.

With that said, I didn't know that LG made laptops (And their website is horrible). Where do you shop for LG laptops? I didn't see them on any of the sites I was looking at. I was just curious what the quality was like.

I have just tried. Didn't work :-(

LG releases the laptops in selective markets, not everywhere. From my experience with them I can say that LG laptops are very reliable. They look great and they work just as fine. Take a look here:

They even make Netbooks.

What's your exact sound chip and mobo chipset ? Did you have any audio problems under Vista?

Install this even on Windows 7:

Use Everest trial to find out exactly what hardware is inside:

The Audio card is (Realtek ALC883).

I never had any issues with Windows Vista.

And even in Windows 7 I can't see any conflicts or issues on the device menu.

But it does not work 90% of the times. Sometimes I hear the windows start chime, but nothing else. And sometimes I can hear music files normally. So the problem is inconsistent.

If you haven't tried Realtek's own HD drivers, they do support Windows 7 32-bit/64-bit

Try them, they do have an uninstaller if you wish to remove them:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/ (very slow servers)

I'm also using Realtek on-board audio with Windows 7 64-bit, and Realtek's own drivers, I have not had any problems at all.

Thanks a lot Gus. It is working perfectly now.

    • yeah it seems to be Edge only. The dialog buttons work as expected in Chrome and Firefox. The phone is using Android 16 (OneUI 8.5) and Edge version  149.0.4022.53
    • I'm not aware of this issue, but to help the other guys.  What version of Android are you using? Did you try a different browser? To see if Edge is the issue here.
    • I agree when are you going to read this (really poor BTW) article? Here is a better article so you actually know what is going on and answers questions you had in other comments --> https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026/05/speed-boosting-low-latency-profile-is-one-of-the-improvements-coming-to-windows-11/ It is unclear if one will be able to disable the new profile at this point but I am not seeing any reason why one would.
