Fraud OS 11
Wow! I would have loved an invite. Can't wait to see if all the features of Works are intact or it is severely crippled. Btw there's no replacement for the Works database. mikee286
When this is released is it going to be available for free? I heard it is replacing ms works but can anyone go and download this version for free legally? mad_onion
hmm, the advert is a bit too massive for people to put up with it for long.. Owen W Veteran Posted December 18, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 18, 2009 Here is Screenshots of Microsoft Office Starter 2010 edition, most interesting feature of Office Starter is you can carry in your USB flash drive using Microsoft Device To-Go Manager which comes along with Office Starter 2010. Microsoft Device To-Go Manager Source: Blogsdna.com It's pretty sweet, but, uh, aren't you under the NDA still? I know I am, and posting this could get you in a bit of trouble if they can trace your username. When this is released is it going to be available for free? I heard it is replacing ms works but can anyone go and download this version for free legally? It will come preloaded on PC's, just like MS works did. It's up to OEM's to choose to load it. hmm, the advert is a bit too massive for people to put up with it for long.. The reason there are ads is because this is a free version, of course they want it to be annoying, they want to sell you office! IronSkull
Right now I think like most people I'm using Office 2007, and it's pretty neat. I believe 2010 has some more enhanced graphics capabilities, which is what keeps me involved mostly with it I guess, haha. Scorbing
The ads are annoying. With as much money as Microsoft has, you would think they can do without the ads. Small companies like Adium and Digsby don't even have 1/4 of the money MS has and they don't fill their software with annoying ads all over the place. 1759
The ads are annoying. With as much money as Microsoft has, you would think they can do without the ads. Small companies like Adium and Digsby don't even have 1/4 of the money MS has and they don't fill their software with annoying ads all over the place. The last time I went to install Digsby on my laptop, it prompted me to install a bunch of essentially adware. I said no thanks, and didn't install it at all. Adium on the other hand, is still awesome. LightShadow
I got into the Beta for this. It runs pretty nicely :) A few missing features and ads are a bit annoying. But still nice :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/847818-office-starter-2010-screenshots/#findComment-592178956 Share on other sites
Quillz
As long as the ads ONLY show up in the bottom-right, it's tolerable. But I do wonder about the feature set... If it's equivalent in features to, say, the Home & Student Edition, then it's really not a bad deal at all. But if all I'm getting is a "free" version of WordPad wrapped in an Office shell... No thanks. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/847818-office-starter-2010-screenshots/#findComment-592321842 Share on other sites
thealexweb
Certainly an improvement over Works, but Microsoft and advertising don't work together well, most of the adverts in Messenger just say Windows Live Messenger or Bing or Windows Phone. It gives the impression they struggle to sell ad space because why advertise Windows Live Messenger on it, if I can see it I've already got it installed. Udedenkz
Nothing beats Office 2003. Try writing calculus problems and notes on the Chinese Remainder Theorem on Word 2003, then try the same thing on Word 2007. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/847818-office-starter-2010-screenshots/#findComment-592376718 Share on other sites
jakem1
Nothing beats Office 2003. IMHO Office 2007 beats it hands down. I shudder whenever I have to use anything pre-2007 - especially when searching for emails in Outlook ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/847818-office-starter-2010-screenshots/#findComment-592376772 Share on other sites

Small companies like Adium and Digsby don't even have 1/4 of the money MS has and they don't fill their software with annoying ads all over the place. ....So you want Office to be given away for free? What's the incentive for people to buy the product when it's free? You've got a bad case of OSS, my friend. (Open Source Snobbery) A small ad in the corner is a small price to pay for $100+ worth of free software.
