I wonder how many final version Opera will release later on..

Opera aren't going to go under any time soon if that's what you're insinuating... they're still making money with the mobile version of their browser.

If the worst case happens they could still open the source code and let the F/OSS community take over development.

I really don't know why Opera bother with the desktop browser market... They're never going to be ANYTHING other than an also-ran against IE, Firefox or Chrome, but their mobile browser is widely considered to be THE browser for mobile phones.

They should stick to concentrating on improving that instead, and give up on the desktop market.

Opera's browser may not be the market breadwinner, but has anyone considered that, like Apple with OSX, market domination isn't really their primary overriding goal. As a company, their goal is to make money, and as long as they continue to do so, they will not stop developing Opera.

Not to mention discontinuing Opera would pi** a lot of people off, myself included

It have never been like that for me. Looks like your cache is bad or something. Clear it.

I clear it everytime I close the browser so its not that

Methinks you have Fit to Width turned on. :s

what now? where's that located? :p

oh neowin your still borked :(

It displays fine for me too. Have you tried uninstalling and deleting all Opera related folders in AppData\Local and AppData\Roaming? I recommend backing up all your bookmarks, speed dial, notes, etc. with Opera Link so you can sync them up after a clean install.

Edit: So it seems Fit to Width when logged in does reproduce the issue. Disable it, 3rd icon on the status bar on the right.

I never gave Opera a second thought untill this version it's now my default in Ubuntu the speed alone is worth the switch, try it you'll be glad you did.

Opera is really my second favorite browser, only one thing bothers me is that there is no option to switch to previous tab on closing current tab (all the options provided don't cover this tiny option).

It would be also great If we could also see windows 7 enhancements in opera, or perhaps even an "Aero-ified" UI.

In my opinion, getting Carakan and an updated Vega out in the public beta builds (the former is their updated Javascript engine, the latter is their graphics library that in the next major engine update is supposed to allow GPU acceleration for rendering, similar to what IE9 is doing) is of higher priority than Windows 7 integration.

Good to hear. :) You don't need Fit to Width 95% of the time anyways.

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
