foobar2000 1.0.1

Recommended Posts

foobar2000 is an advanced freeware audio player for the Windows platform. Some of the basic features include full unicode support, ReplayGain support and native support for several popular audio formats.

What's new in version 1.0.1:

  • Undecodable tracks now get substituted with 1s of silence to prevent deadlocks with dodgy third-party components.
  • Worked-around bug in Windows 7 with status bar repaint glitches.
  • Windows Media streaming compatibility improvements.
  • Fixed notification area icon being incorrectly shown in certain conditions.
  • Audio format support updates: added support for decoding Wave64 and RF64 formats, added built-in support for writing Wave64 format.
  • Added folder name wildcard matching for album art search.
  • Added a workaround for horribly broken Asus Xonar drivers.
  • Converter: worked-around misbehaviors of command-line encoders when the output file name begins with - or @.
  • Converter: refreshed MP3 encoding configuration dialog.

First time I hear that Xonar drivers are broken. They got buggy drivers for the STX at win7 launch , but these drivers were updated.

Took time and checked the foobar2000 forums and found this which details the problem with Asus Xonar and foobar2000 1.0+

Apparently it didn't work if you have default setting with the GX mode on.

Nah. Asus has learnt a lot from Creative, including how not to ever EVER update their drivers until the hardware itself is old and forgotten. Sure I love the Xonar D2 in my media center, but I don't think I'll be going asus next time. probably rather go creative again. for all their faults.

Next time I'll make sure to check on forums whether the card can actually switch between digital and analog decoding without pops. or at least keep the TOSLink open constantly so it doesn't pop every time there's a new sound, despite using the convert everything to live DTS function. Wich I don't really want to do, since when I watch movies with DTS or DD audio on my Media center, I want those digital streams to be passed directly, not reprocessed into a lesser version.

@HawkMan

Well , they have a support forum, you can try to complain there. They don't have any reason to not support a sound card that is relatively recent.

I never noticed the GX mode bug, because I don't use it.

My first problem with CREATIVE sound cards, is that they seem to have a short life (my first one died) .I hope it's better with the Xonar.
