So lets say you?re out in the sun and the iPad soaks some of that sunlight in, the device will switch to the screen you see on the right and you?ll be left with a notification ?iPad needs to cool down before you can use it?.

Wouldn't the glare be an issue anyway? I mean if you're using a phone in the sun, you can use one hand to block the sun glare. But you'd need some pretty big hands to block the sun on an iPad.

Its designed yes, and I hope its tested well because as hot it gets in california, itll pass around the rest of the US. I mean the hottest cities I would think are Cali, Texas, Arizona and Florida. If theres more feel free to correct me, but ive heard those being the hottest with Arizona being dry heat mainly. But it gets built in China so you never know.

Regardlesss I believe the mthod is good, instead of frying the device, it tells the user "hey get it out of the sun for awhile" or etc. Some people like to leave electronics lying around in the heat, especially in there car, be it mp3 players, there decks that are prone to direct sunlight from the rear window, etc. Ive seen enough screens be "blacked" out or the devices dead because someone leaves there mp3 player(be it iPod, Zune, etc) plugged in and in the glove box. Yeah not a good idea.

As far as using the screen in sunlight, they(apple or third parties) will come out with Anti Glare screens. One of the best ones I like is DLO Anti Glare. Worth the $25 for 5 screens. Thick and durable also keep full sunlight out.

But, lets see what happens as more people get it.

That's one of the inherent problems of tablet computers from the first all the way up to the iPad, not one of them has managed a screen bright enough with a durable design, good battery life, good UI and so on all in one package. They all fall short on one thing or another.

One day someone will get it right, but not this time for Apple I don't think. It'll kick up hype but thats just the waves washing back from all of their previous success stories. People aren't stupid and will only try something once unless they like it, so by getting it wrong from the off with this version of the tablet, they are alienating a lot of people from the technology altogether with flaws like this.

Just my thoughts, as I have always wondered when I would actually use a tablet PC at all. We have every niche already filled now - the Smartphone covers us when we're "on-the-go" generally, the netbook if we need a little more power, the laptop if you have a desk/are inside. When are we doing something that requires us to use a tablet PC? Walking about aimlessly processing vitally important reports like they show on the adverts - come on, how many of us actually do those sorts of things on a regular basis, and why would a tablet PC make that task more productive/easier? I don't mean to sound like I know all the situations people would use a PC in, but I honestly can't think of a situation where a tablet PC is the only device useful for the task.

Me either. Mine is "suffocated" by a Otterbox Defender. I can feel it getting hot when im putting it through stress(game emulators, playing Games for a long time, etc all while multitasking) and nothing really happens. It gets warm, but big deal? I frequently take it out, no burn marks or anything. I already talked to the guys at the apple store I went to and they can careless. They said it wont overheat because it hasnt so far. The thing is, if i do the same stuff with the iphone out in the open, stays cool. So im not worried anyway. But if it breaks, theyll give me a new one because its overheating and its not my fault.

The case is a beast and itll stay on lol.

Exactly. It's been a standard warning since the iPhone 3G? maybe even the 2G. It rarely comes up, and I personally have never seen it.

Oh it works, believe me it works. My dad went to india last year, brought 2 iPhones. I think there both on Voda, but anyway, used daily by my mamu's and they are business guys / always on it, even in the hot summers of 105F+ they said it worked well for the heat. No cases thou, i told them in india putting it in a CASE is a bad idea. They have silicone cases because of there kids but those are easy to take off for summer.

So yeah, its unbelieveable but they still work. Both 3g's too.

I owned the iPod Touch until it was stolen and it worked wonders in the scorching heat, was although talking about the iPad.

Glare from the sun (and light bulbs) is the one reason I only ever buy products with a matte screen. Sure glossy screens look much nicer, but it's a real pain with any light source nearby!
