Yeah I agree, if you do not like the first game, I see no reason why you would like this one. It is the same game in premise, just everything is really refined.

I am still trying to get used to moving fluidly throughout the city myself. I did all of the AR challenges pretty much first thing and a few of the advanced ones were definitely a pain in the ass, but eventually got them all.

I went ahead and picked it up last night, damn reviews can be enticing. I was planning on keeping AC and selling the AA it came with, but they put the 3D glasses in AA, so I had to open it. Sure I can still sell it used (open) though.

I was not a fan of the 3D personally, I tried it for a good 20-30 minutes, altering TV settings, switching lighting, and moving, it just didn't do much for me, and after I turned it off and took the glasses off, my eyes were all blurry for a good 5 minutes. I do not doubt it looks awesome on a true 3D TV though. Wish I had one.

But as for the actual game, I think I may enjoy this. It feels like Assassin's Creed now with the open city, only, Batman, and I love Assassin's Creed. AA gave me a claustrophobic linear feel. This game is quite amazing , as the reviews claim. I suck at the combat for now, besides spamming X and a Y counter, I am trying to get better at the special moves. Maybe this game will turn me on to Batman a bit more. I only have tomorrow, and Monday to play it really, before BF3, so I'm going to try and possibly marathon it tomorrow when I close up shop.

while this game and the first are very pretty games I own the first one and I just cannot get into it. I do not like the combat style of the game. :( I am certain it is a good game and if nothing else it is great to look at i just do not enjoy playing it.

DAMN PC DELAY1!!

Why do they always screw PC users?

:(

The combat system is what I like about the game

Looks like i'll have to wait till tomorrow. Royal Mail have been awesome and not delivered it. Lucky TV is good tonight (An Idiot Abroad). So hopefully it'll be here tomorrow and i still have the weekend to play it.

I need a decent store i can trust to get collectors editions. Shopto was my usual place but because to them i'm not UK mainland (i am) they want £20 delivery!

You know how I can tell that this game is awesome? My wife, who is not a gamer at all and usually leaves the room when I sit down to play a game, has watched every single minute that I've played of Arkham City. Right when I got home from work yesterday, she asked, "So when are you gonna play Batman again?" She's hooked!

heh heh it's always fun to have non-gamers like that show an interest in games. my mom, sister and few others in my family are just like your wife. for people who never pick up a controller they sure know a lot about games, down to characters and plot. as for the game, looks nice on the 360, seems like somewhat of an engine upgrade compared to the previous entry. plays about the same, but then i only played like ten minutes heh heh.

Just out of curiosity when you say you wish you had a real 3D TV, what do you mean? How are you playing it now?

As I said, I almost feel like it is the best 3D I have seen yet, however I do now have one exception. The 3D is fantastic when you are outdoors and gliding around the city, etc. Indoors, it is just not as effective and at times feels a bit to much. So I do need to add this asterisk to my original statement about the 3D. Outdoors looks amazing, indoors not so much.

As far as combat, although I am by no means an expert at it, I am pretty decent, and the best advice I can give is slow and steady. For example in order to get a power shot (I truly am forgetting how the game refers to it), you cannot hit the button to fast, or it will completely negate any chance of a power hit. Also for countering, it also pays to be slow with it. I have countered 3 guys at the same time, just by pressing counter 3 times in a row slowly, and I smashed 2 guys into each-other as I kicked the 3rd guy while smashing the 2 together. So while one can definitely button mash and get through the combat, the way to be effective with it is to be very slow and deliberate.

For those of you that beat Arkham Asylum, does City make references to Asylum? I'm not going to be picking up City until Thanksgiving time (just too much other stuff to finish) but I'm thinking of forcing myself to finish Asylum first.

Yup, it definitely makes references to the events in Asylum. I'd definitely finish AA first.

Well, I just have a regular LED TV (My TV). As opposed to a TV advertised as 3D Theater Tech. I have never seen a, I guess, true 3D TV, but I have heard good things about them. The AC 3D also works on TVs that don't have the Theater 3D tech in them, which is pretty cool. Or, am I mistaken and it works the same on TVs even that are advertised as 3D? Here is a screenshot of the manual. I guess the last line may have thrown me off there.

It could just be me. I have never seen a 3D movie in theaters, so technically this game is my first look at 3D (besides the cereal boxes that used to have 3D on the back and came with the glasses :-P)), and maybe my eyesight just doesn't see 3D that well.

I have been trying to slow my combat down, and get the critical strikes perfect, but it is difficult. I just wanna slam it as fast as possible, considering that works as well, but it doesn't feel right. It will take awhile to get used too, but within time I will get it. Personally, I really like Catwoman's feel in combat, where as Batman feels like a solid 1-2 punch guy, she feels more acrobatic and agile. Or maybe I just like looking at her better.....

Okay cool. I think it may just be that 3D why you do not see it that well. There is a massive difference between it and the stereotropic 3D that requires you to wear the special (way overpriced) active glasses. The stereotropic 3D is the one that is used in theatres, etc., so when you get a TV with it, pretty massive difference. With that said being an owner of a 3D TV, I will say it is very mixed results on what looks good and what does not. I definitely enjoy it when it is done properly, but when it is done bad, it is really bad. Headache inducing, etc.

And yeah, it is really hard to take your time with the combat, no doubt about it. Since I rented the game I am unable to check out the catwomen DLC, but from the videos I have watched she does look much faster and more fluid, so I can definitely see how fighting with her would be a more overall enjoyable experience.

I love this game. First game since Brotherhood have i stayed up so late playing it. I didn't want to put the controller down. Such an interesting story and there is always something happening. They make it so difficult to goto the main objectives without showing you a riddler trophy or a side quest.

I spent an hour yesterday trying to do the AR missions. I didn't do any of the advanced ones. The flying is a nightmare. It is so difficult to judge height.

Is there a trick to these or do you just have to master gliding?

Just have to master gliding. I did all of them including the advanced ones and it took me about an hour total for all of them, if not a bit longer, and most of that was spent mastering the advanced ones. The largest piece of advice I can give is mastering the dive bomb and the timing of stopping it and "pulling up" to get a lot of momentum to then glide long distances at a low elevation. That is definitely the key to getting the advanced ones done.

I am loving this game, only playing maybe 2-3 hours a day due to schedule; however, I am LOVING it. I am only 57% of main story and 25% done with the entire game. The encounters are great, I won't mention any spoiler type things but, my two most recent run-ins were with the Mad Hatter and Mr. Freeze.

I thought as much, i've managed to do one, I have three more left. I have the bomb down quite well just the pulling up, i'm either too low or too high.

I finished the game over the weekend, including all the side quests (excluding 3 AR targets). It is actually quite a short game. Sure the Riddler trophies will extend that quite a bit and i am looking forward to getting them all.

Still the game is amazing. The ending was pretty good

Will be interesting to see how they bring the Joker back for the third game... if they do? They might just say he is Clayman clone.

I give it 9/10 thumbs

    • FotoSketcher Studio 4.30 by Razvan Serea FotoSketcher Studio is a free creative tool that instantly turns your photos into artwork. With just a few clicks, you can apply styles like pencil sketches, watercolor, oil painting, ink drawings, cartoons, and abstract effects. Powerful yet simple sliders let you adjust every detail to match your vision, from subtle enhancements to bold artistic transformations. You can also improve your images with tools for contrast, sharpness, color, and brightness, plus add frames and text. It supports JPEG, PNG (including transparency), BMP, and WebP formats for both opening and exporting. Available for Windows (64-bit) and macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), FotoSketcher also offers batch processing, manual retouching, and custom effects for advanced users. Completely free, including commercial use, with no ads or spyware. FotoSketcher Studio 4.30 changelog: New LUTs effect In the Photo Lab category you will find a new LUTs (Lookup Tables) effect for custom colour grading. It comes with 18 presets built right into the application (Cinematic, Kodachrome, Golden hour, Portrait and more), each with a live preview so you can see the look before applying it. Right-click the preview to compare with your original image. And if you have your own .cube files, you can load those from disk too. New "Stylize" category Added a brand-new Stylize category with four new effects. Three of them (Mosaic, Circles and Triangles) are built on the same space-filling idea, turning your photo into tiled mosaics, clusters of circles, or a low-poly triangle look. The fourth, Cartoon, is a bit different: it gives a clean graphic style with defined lines and solid colours. A little tip - set the colour intensity to 0 and Cartoon draws a pure outline drawing with no fill. Combined with the "Do not erase background" option, you can run it on top of any other effect to add crisp contours in two quick steps. Auto-Enhance and Full Reset Two small but handy additions. Auto-Enhance (just press E) tries to optimise your source photo - exposure, white balance, local contrast - for a 'dehazed', natural-looking starting point. And Full Reset clears everything back to a clean slate in one step (working image, history, LUT, script, brushes and sliders) without having to close and reopen the program. Press Ctrl+Shift+N, or right-click the exit button. Scripts The script engine has been updated to support all the new effects, with a few new commands and improved help. If you would like some inspiration, the recent scripting tutorial on this blog walks through several ready-made example scripts. The usual improvements The interface now uses new colour accents for better readability, the history gallery has had a few tweaks, and you can now open .webp images directly. On top of that, this release includes some performance improvements and a good number of bug fixes.
