Handcent has always seemed like garbage to me, but maybe I'll have to try it again sometime. I'd be interested in the new skin, because what bothers me the most about Handcent is how incredibly awful it looks.

Garbage compared to what? It blows Android's stock messaging out of the water (not sure compared to HTC's)

Handcent felt slow to use on my phone. Preferred GoSMS and it runs smooth as butter on Normal mode, there's even a Lite mode option that I didn't have to use.

Pretty much. I really can't imagine myself switching away from GoSMS at this point, it's just so .. good.

I don't agree with that, but if that's your opinion then that's fine. Even if Handcent has extra features that the stock app doesn't have, they are features I don't need because I'm missing nothing from my texting experience right now. And it looks terrible as well. Why would I use an ugly SMS client when the stock one looks much better and works just fine?

Handcent looks like a bunch of 12 year girls designed it!

Sure, if you use the extra themes. But, go to the dark theme and use the Hero skin, and bam, looks awesome. Much better than the stock messaging app or HTC's messaging app, both of which are balls slow when you have hundreds/thousands of messages in one thread. Handcent is fast on my droid incredible, which is a year old... You guys are either using crappy phones or are doing something way wrong.

The features alone in handcent are worth getting. Repeat notifications ftw

Tried go sms, and it was just dumb, didn't look good.
