i got some 5.1 speakers
but no software that manipulates their sound and bass and treble

is there any freeware that will do this for me?

the creative surround sound mixer i used to have refuses to install, but that was crap anyway so i dont want to spend time trying to get that to work

any suggestions?

FFDShow Audio Decoder got a pack of live DSPs built-in - simple channel levels, equalizer, surround mixer, low frequency crossover and some kind of exciter too. If you're on Windows 7, you'll have to disable built-in decoders, though.

+1 for DFX, been using it for a while. It's not free though :(

How did you get that working on windows 7? I had a hell of a time getting any creative drivers to work (I have an audigy 2SE and I managed to get a basic driver working and am able to use CMSS and some EAX but not the whole controls like what you got). I used to have one that worked that had that on my HTPC and it was deleted off creative's site! I had the page bookmarked. it shows the download links and you click to download and it redirects you to the product page.... arrrg creative. I can't find my old exe file that had the working mixer app.

i have 5.1 speakers from my old dell computer which when on the dell it used creative software, drivers and the mixer
so i guess they are creative surround speakers!

i just plug them into the headphone jack on my sony windows 7 laptop

i want to be able to use the creative surround mixer or a similar programme to control sound on my windows 7 sony vaio

I've been using AudioProc (for Winamp) for a while now. While it is not free, DFX is much more bloated.
