Well i realised Neowin doesnt have a metal club or discussion of metal thread like most forums do, and theres way to many metal fans here to be ignored so come here and discuss latest albums youve bought, recomendations for future purchases of metal albums, and discuss your favorite metal bands with other members, and if your looking for stores to buy hard to find metal albums around your area you can ask people. Sorry if this thread doesnt work, but ive seen it in a few other forums and it usually lasts ages. A few stores in melbourne i know for albums and merchandise, there mainly in the city: Metal Mayhem, www.MetalMayhem.com.au Which is probably the best for albums,…

Daft Punk announce split after 28 years

Image via https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daft_Punk#/media/File:Daftpunklapremiere2010.jpg Daft Punk, who were responsible for some of the most influential dance tracks of all time, have announced their retirement after nearly 30 years. The duo broke the news in a typically-enigmatic video, titled Epilogue. In the clip, musicians Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, dressed in their iconic robot costumes, bid each other farewell in the desert, before one of them self-destructed. The band's longtime publicist confirmed the split to the BBC. Formed in Paris in 1993, the group brought the French undergrou…

Vinyl Discussion 1 2
by compl3x- 28 replies

I thought I would make this topic to continue a discussion about Vinyl that DirtyLarry and I started here. I copied Larry's post: When I was a kid I would beg my dad to let me change the records. He'd rarely let me because he was worried I scratch them or mess up the stylus. The physical experience of putting on a record, especially of an album you can listen to from start to finish, is something that digital can't offer. Having said that, there are some genre which don't benefit from the sound of Vinyl IMO. I think rock sounds wonderful on vinyl. Classical doesn't enjoy any benefit as far as I can tell.

Aretha Franklin is “gravely ill” and surrounded by her friends and family in Detroit, a person close to the soul singer confirmed. The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the singer is seriously ill. Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman, who first reported the news of Franklin is "gravely ill" on Sunday, said the Queen of Soul's family is “asking for prayers and privacy.” Franklin’s family also confirmed the news to WDIV Local 4. No further details about her health were immediately available, and reps for Franklin did not respond to Fox News’ request for comment. Franklin, who turned 76 in March, has been battling …

It's not an old song, a few months at the latest. The chorus goes "something something something London". He has a "gruff" voice and it almost sounds like he's saying 'Landan'.

Where to buy lossless music files by track?
by McCordRm- 2 replies
- 2.1k views
So my understanding is that buying MP3s from sites like Amazon Music limit you to a lossy format. Is there a good site for purchasing DRM-Free tracks (not full albums) in a lossless format? I don't want to use "services" like Spotify, as I like maintaining my own library and being able to move files at my leisure between devices. Thanks in advance! P.S. Do not bother suggestion Pirating.

Best service to find related music?
by +Zagadka- 6 replies

So I periodically stick my head up from my playlists and look for new music. I usually use and have had good success with Pandora, but everyone keeps telling me to use Spotify (now that Groove has been euthanized). Don't really get it as far as entering a few musicians and streaming related content/stations like Pandora does. The "recommended" portion of Spotify seems less than extensive to me. Cheers

What's the name of the song whose beginning sounds like "Mad World" by Gary Jules, only its sung by a woman? The song I'm looking for is slightly more upbeat than mad world. I think it's a fairly recent song...either this year (2009) or last. The piano solo at the beginning is very similar to Mad World, but the rest of the song is not.
