Fraps and Windows 8 DP?

Recommended Posts

I need to record a video of how the new user interface behaves in Windows 8. Unfortunately, Fraps doesn't work - the hotkeys don't seem to do anything. I checked other desktop recording solutions, like Camtasia Studio, but it fails to record the screen smoothly - the videos look more like having between 10 and 15 frames per second, instead of the set 30 in the options.

So it seems Fraps with it's DWM monitoring is the best thing to record the desktop smoothly at 30 or 60fps. Is there a way to force it to run on the developer preview and on the beta in the near future?

I know this is an old post, but you're right, Fraps does work for DirectX and OpenGL on Windows 8. But no Metro. Try Bandicam. I've tested it and it works great.

I have a discussion about Fraps on Windows 8 on my YouTube channel.

I also have a playlist about Bandicam.

There are a bunch of other screen capture programs that work with Windows 8
