How can it be DX9 if it won't work under XP? Minimum requirements are Vista and 7, which leads me to believe it would have to be DX10, unless there's something I'm missing.

The fact that dx9 games play fine in Vista and 7?

If you can find any info saying otherwise anywhere on the internet, fantastic. I can't.

In DishonoredEngine.ini there is an entry:

AllowD3D10=False

So what happens if you set that to true? I'm guessing nothing particularly good comes out of it (no better performance or quality), but it would be interesting to check out.

Nothing, usually. If the game doesn't support DX10 it will simply not have the shaders for it. The engine can support whatever it likes, but without the shaders coded in it won't matter.

I am thinking of buying this game, I've only got a PC, so is keyboard+mouse working 100%, or should I buy an Xbox controller?

If the game looks and performs well, does it really matter?

I would argue that it plays better on keyboard+mouse, your powers seem to be (for the most part) aim-based....like blink it gives you a circle of light showing you where you will blink to and you aim that using the mouse (on a console by using the same joystick that you look around with). That specific power is 10x better when you can use it rapidly. I have been abusing it to escape enemies when I am detected, and without lots of time playing consoles I know I couldn't use it nearly as easily as I do with a mouse.

I suppose if you suck with keyboard+mouse but are good with controllers, then a controller is the way to go, but as a PC gamer (mostly), keyboard+mouse feels a lot better, at least for some specific actions, in this game.

This game works perfectly with kb and mouse, definitely no need for a controller.

Funny, I was thinking of it the other way around.

I used to game with a keyboard and mouse for years, but recently got a controller. Couldn't get used to it at first. The mouse started giving me carpal tunnel so I switched to a controller by necessity. Now it's much easier playing with a controller for me. Go figure.

Yes.

"I feel like PC game players out there are like the Rodney Dangerfield of the industry. They're not getting any respect. What you get is a port of a 360 or PS3 game that's running on, now seven-year-old technology. A top-end gaming PC these days is about 10 times more powerful."

What does that have to do with "Dishonored"?

This is probably Bethesda's smoothest launch. No issues.

Forced AA with nvinspector as well. MSAA 4X + 4X SGSSAA.
