Prey 2 Canceled?

Recommended Posts

Rumors are reporting that Zenimax has pulled the plug on Human Head's ambitious sci fi sequel.

Rumors are abound today that Prey 2, the Human Head-developed sci-fi sequel to the 2006 shooter, has been canceled by publisher Zenimax. The rumor comes from a Dutch site, PSFocus, who reports that sources close to the project revealed the cancelation, stating that an official announcement will be made next week.

Last month, Human Head's Brian Karis revealed in a twitter post that Zenimax pulled all Prey 2 related talks from GDC, casting the game's future in doubt.

The original Prey also had a pretty tough development, having been pushed back for over a decade before it finally saw release on PC and Xbox 360. The sequel was to have a new intergalactic bounty hunter protagonist, a focus on exploration, and an action-RPG feel. Everything we'd heard about the game spoke to its extremely ambitious nature, but now, if the rumors are to be believed, we may never know whether or not it would live up to lofty expectations.

Bethesda and Zenimax go to my **** list if this happens. They let Brink, Hunted and Rogue Warrior see the light of day but maybe not Prey 2. Prey 2 looked so good at Quakecon last year it shot up my want list.

If they canceled it, it was probably with good reason, anything can look good on a pre set up demo. that's kind of the point. I mean, how many games haven't looked awesome before release and have had great expectations only to be a major letdown, but for the player and the publisher who forked out for the crap.

I would be very surprised if it gets cancelled. I was really looking forward to it since GDC 2011. The new direction they took with the story was great. At the moment, it may very well be cancelled already. Bethesda has refused to comment on it unlike the rumours of Doom 4's cancellation. When that rumour started to spread, Bethesda was fairly quick to announce that it wasn't cancelled.

Anyway, I'd be surprised because Human Head Studios isn't an incompetent studio. I really enjoyed playing their last game (Prey). I can only guess at why a game like Prey 2 would be cancelled but the first thing that comes to mind is quality. It may not be as good as we thought and that's something I feared. Prey used a modified version of id Tech 4 which is the same engine that powered Doom 3. Prey 2 also uses a modified version of id Tech 4 which seems a bit odd considering the age of the engine.

learning from their mistakes? games that look good that they know will turn to **** i.e. brink.

Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.

yes indeed, thanks for the update and good to know it's still going. probably just delayed it to launch on new hardware, which isn't a bad idea. i would have loved Prey 2 like in 2009 or something, but since we've waited this long, might as well wait a while longer and get it with better specs.

Bethesda: Prey 2 teaser site is 'not something we're doing'

Remember the "Alien Noire" website supposedly counting down to a revelation about Prey 2? A recent update added a Prey 2 logo and more to the site. The site now also features logos for both Bethesda Softworks and Human Head Studios, Prey 2's publisher and developer, respectively.

You might think that using official logos would substantiate the site's legitimacy, but apparently that's not so, according to Bethesda. A spokesperson tells Joystiq, "I don't know what that is or who is doing it. It's not something we're doing." So there you have it.

    • I was using searxng for about a year , self hosted, but results were starting to timeout and eventually it became unusable so I switched to degoog. Much better for my needs, more polished and add-ons like maps and calculations etc

    • Hello, I am not as familiar with AMD CPUs as I am with Intel's, but as I understand it, that's a mid-range CPU from about three years ago.  I would think it to be fine for everyday casual-type use.  A larger SSD might be better, but with storage prices these days that's a decision that has to be carefully thought about. • Ocenaudio 3.19.5 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display. Ocenaudio 3.19.5 changelog: Fixes crashes related to audio devices on Windows (DirectSound and ASIO) Fixes several crashes and memory corruption issues Fixes opening several headerless files at once, which previously dropped all but one Improves batch export by suggesting and remembering the destination folder Fixes accented and non-Latin characters in VST plug-in and compressed-archive file names Adds zstd compression support and updates the archive library Other bug fixes and improvements Download: Ocenaudio 64-bit | Portable | ~40.0 MB (Freeware) Download: Ocenaudio for Linux and Mac OS View: Ocenaudio Homepage | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
