Wasn't it removed to make boot-up faster?

Don't know about that, but one of the first things I've ALWAYS disabled almost instantly on any Windows install along with the login & log off and any of those stupid windows sounds like that.

Never have figured out why it was there to begin with. I mean, like WTF do I need a sound for that for? I KNOW I'm starting the dang machine!!

Honestly I think that because MS is trying to make it boot and turn on so fast that needing the old boot/startup sound isn't the case anymore. I guess they could do a simple one note sound like some devices do that i've noticed from time to time.

The startup sound is disabled by default and logon, logoff and shutdown sounds have been REMOVED. :( Although in Windows 7 and later, you can hit the Mute key on your keyboard to mute the system even before it logs in.

No biggie. Are startup sounds even *that* important? Sure it's nice to have a little jingle to tell you your computer is up, but most of the time, I have them disabled because of having my laptops at school. My desktop rarely gets shut down to even play the sounds.
