HI people, I'm curious about something. I haven't heard Windows 8's startup sound... Is it me or does it actually don't have?

:/

I'd rather it didn't. Ever turn on a laptop during a meeting or during class? Embarrassing.

Yeeeeaaah :p. I'm always ready to hit the mute button ASAP!

But it definitely feels strange without it XD

Wasn't it removed to make boot-up faster?

You do know that you can disable it, right?

Can't say it would be something that would go a great miss whether it was in or not tbh.

Don't know about that, but one of the first things I've ALWAYS disabled almost instantly on any Windows install along with the login & log off and any of those stupid windows sounds like that.

Never have figured out why it was there to begin with. I mean, like WTF do I need a sound for that for? I KNOW I'm starting the dang machine!!

I like the sound, that way I can be in another room and know when the computer is ready for me to login. Instead of sitting infront of the machine waiting.

The betta fish is shown during startup in the Consumer Preview, and it's likely that will change to something else by the final build. It's possible that both a start-up animation and sound will arrive.

Maybe due to how fast Windows 8 boots on modern hardware, this requirement will be obsolete :p

Still a Beta Windows 7 did not have all of its new sounds until the RC was released.
