Guild Wars 2 - Some Questions

Recommended Posts

I've never played or even seen footage of Guild Wars, but I love RPGs and MMOs. I used to play WoW, which I loved, and I'm into the usual single-player RPGs like the TES games, Dark/Demon's Souls, Dragon Age etc. I've been reliably informed that Guild Wars is a great game, and there are apparently very high hopes for the sequel. One of the things I don't like about MMOs is that, unlike single-player games, the world around you rarely changes based on your actions. The Wikipedia page for Guild Wars 2 reckons that the game will address this problem and use heavily instanced locations that reflect your progress through the game.

I'm really considering pre-ordering GW2 but I have a few questions:

1) Is the April 18th release date accurate?

2) Is it a giant open world like WoW or is it more hub-like?

3) Is it really going to be as good as it seems?

What do you guys reckon?

1) No. There's no chance the game is coming out next wednesday. The only thing possible to happen next week is the first beta weekend event.

2) It's an open world. You will actually see and be able to play with other people outside cities without needing to group with them before leaving the city. Unlike GW1.

3) I haven't gotten to play it in one of the beta's myself yet, but what i've heard and seen from those who have, yes, it likely will be as good as it seems.

1) Not a chance. Haven't even entered beta yet.

2) As far as I know, it's like GW, so not necessarily an open world (like in WoW), as you do a story line, it's not going out and killing x of y for z.

3) Still waiting on my beta access (I pre-purchased the game) but from what I have seen and heard yea it's that good.

1) Not a chance. They have only opened up the pre-orders on April 11th. That indicates that it will be soon, but certainly not the 18th. It'd need to be shipped to shops first.

2) If it's anything like GW1, which I assume it will be, it's both. Very, very large maps, but loading times to switch between maps and cities/populous places.

3) GW1 was frigging awesome in my opinion, so I can only presume it'll be the same level of awesomeness.

Thanks for the replies. It all sounds very cool - perhaps the April 18th date is when the pre-orders activate to give you a chance at getting into the beta version etc. Either way, I think I'll get a copy of this - the cheapest I can find a copy is ?39.99 on Play.com, if anyone knows of a better/cheaper way to get it please let me know :)

You're probably best waiting until closer to the launch date before buying the game if you're after the best deals. Look on the likes of Play.com, Amazon.co.uk and others closer to the time.

OK, thanks for the tip.

Upon further investigation, it appears the "pre-purchase" orders are being released/shipped on 18th April, which may allow you access to the betas, and will give you three days' early access to the game. I've still not played enough of SWTOR so I'll play that for a bit and then pick up GW2 closer to release.

There have been atleast 2 weekend CBTs up untill now , today they are doing a stress test. Its open world , more like wow than GW1 and YES it is awesome . No nothing will happend on 18th april , game still has atleast 4-5 months until release.

Considering it's been in closed beta since mid december, i think an additional 4-5 months of betas seems like a bit much. 3 months sounds like a more realistic maximum time.

Pre-purchases were opened on the 11th. The 18th may be when physical copies are sent, however all purchases on the gw2 site were digiital. I bought my copy digital on the 11th. It guarantees beta access, and gives 3 days head start among other things.

I have to say the game is gonna be awesome, I didnt play GW1 and I wish I had, but WoW dominated me back then. Now though I have seen pretty much every beta video possible, read every article i can get my hands on and it just seems awesome. If you want to get a look at some of the classes and how it looks/plays, check this guys youtube channel, he plays very well and his videos are LONG, one of them is almost 2 hours long, and I watched the whole thing lol.

Personally I am super excited about WvWvW pvp, I think I am going to spend my first 80 levels in there. There are a few WvWvW videos on youtube but not too many.

    • AI is the justification that company administrators use to lay people off; it is not the end all, be all touted in the media (many of whom can't tell a microchip from a potato chip). Greed is main driving factor behind its adoption; the other is remaining relevant in the face of competition from other entities.

Less than a week ago, Mozilla fixed crashes on Intel Raptor Lake processors with version 152.0.1. Now, Mozilla has prepared yet another set of fixes that address problems with localization, playback issues of certain MP4 files, and performance issues on website that perform various encryption operations at once. Here is the full changelog: Firefox 152.0.2 is now available for download from Mozilla's FTP. Existing installations will get the update over the next several hours. The latest version will also be available soon on the official website, the Microsoft Store, and Neowin's Software page. You can find Firefox 152.0.2 release notes in the official documentation. The latest feature update brought reworked settings with a more streamlined user interface, JPEG XL support, new features for Private mode, a new way to mute a tab (just type "mute" in the address bar), and many more. You can find the complete changelog here. In other Firefox news, Mozilla recently published its roadmap, where the company detailed the upcoming Nova redesign and other features it plans to implement. Mozilla wants to make the new user interface easier to navigate and more modern, with a heavy focus on its privacy tools, such as its built-in VPN.
