Musicians are hoping to create a big bang for the 1st May holiday in Austria after creating the world's biggest drum kit.

The drum kit complete with symbols is still being built and will be unveiled with symbols at the Prater funfair in the Austrian capital Vienna.

The drum kit includes several drums, symbols and other instruments that will have a height of 6.5 metres and take up eight metre of floor space when finished.

Spokesman for the project Franz Rohracher said the main aim though was to make a drum kit that was also playable with a fantastic sound.

He said: "There are two huge drumsticks which need to be used with some force, and anybody that plays it needs to basically make sure they use a lot of bodily effort. They also need to be pretty good at balancing."

The musicians came up with the idea after a drinking session shortly before Christmas and have now arranged for the premier with the kit to go ahead when 300,000 visitors are expected to be at the funfair.

The drum kit will be in action for short performances every 10 minutes ? say the musicians - and the show will end with a bang in the form of a synchronised firework show.
