Hum
Looking for all the world like the cross between an alligator, a fish and dinosaur, the alligator gar is the largest freshwater fish in America. And with two rows of teeth, the predatory fish is also terrifying. So you can imagine his surprise when Kenny Williams, from Vicksburgh, Miss., stumbled across what is being called the largest one ever caught on February 14. The tremendous fish measured 8 feet, 5 inches long, weighed 327 pounds, and was 48 inches around, reported WAPT.com. Williams told the local TV station that he used nets to catch the fish, before grabbing it by the gills and pulling it bodily into the boat with him. At which point he must have gotten a good look at the fish's double row of razor sharp teeth. "A lot of people that have seen him say he's a dinosaur fish," Williams joked with a WAPT.com reporter. more Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1072917-record-crushing-327-pound-dinosaur-fish-caught/ Share on other sites

Tuishimi
I wouldn't grab that thing by the gills. I get nervous working around my arowana, and this thing could do a LOT more damage. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1072917-record-crushing-327-pound-dinosaur-fish-caught/#findComment-594824061 Share on other sites

Hell-In-A-Handbasket
and now it's dead, for what? A combination of humanity to be terrified to swim where that thing was caught. And for Hollywood to come out with a new B-Rated movie with this thing as the star ( like Parana 3DD ) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1072917-record-crushing-327-pound-dinosaur-fish-caught/#findComment-594824091 Share on other sites

streetw0lf
I'm surprised he didn't use dynamite. Try snaring that with a good old rod and reel like a true sportsman would. He must be one of the 'Swamp People'. DocM
I wonder what it tastes like when cooked and eaten...probably like chicken.... :) Tastes a bit like Northern pike, they're considered a delicacy, and both are bony so there is more prep necessary than with other fish. Easier with the larger fish, of course Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1072917-record-crushing-327-pound-dinosaur-fish-caught/#findComment-594824883 Share on other sites

Southern Patriot
The guy who caught the fish was from Mississippi but if you follow the links he caught the fish in Louisiana. Not sure where you are getting that info, but you are wrong, or you misread the name of the county where he caught it: A Vicksburg man pulled a 327-pound alligator gar from Chotard Lake in Issaquena County, Mississippi wildlife officials said. http://www.wapt.com/...gv/-/index.html Issaquena =/= Louisiana Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1072917-record-crushing-327-pound-dinosaur-fish-caught/#findComment-594854173 Share on other sites
