I checked my bios to make sue that it is being picked up by the PC & it is .Is there a specific reason behind this ? I'm thinking that I need to install Chipset drivers to get it Win 8 to see it when Windows loads .What y'all think?

Thanks for the speedy reply , gonna try it out & let y'all know what happens.

Guess what I found out while looking for my Chipset Drivers ...Im lucky enough to have bought a PC that has a Chipset Design Flaw ...Guess there will be a new motherboard coming my way when I get a chance to contact Hp,lol Go figure ...http://h10025.www1.h...4006397#desktop

I've included a link , in case any1 else may need that info.

So... I used the Intel Chipset Update Tool ,but i got a problem still no drive showing up , all wires are plugged in , drive is opening & closing & I put in a Hard Disk with another operating system it works/shows up like it supposed to , I wonder what it can be , Do yall think that the Intel Update Utility could have detected & installed the wrong chipset drivers?

Here is a pic of the new chipset drivers that Intel Update Utility installed.

@ Apubo dats wat i had done after i posted my inital post , it installed & updated the chipset but still no dvd drive showing up , now like I said it does work right in win7 7 down , i have installed win 8 on several pc's/laptop & this is the first real issue i have had besides another in my people app....

OK I remember reading about this issue somewhere and it had to do with a registry issue (may not actually be a motherboard/chipset problem in your case) in the Win 8 CP. See here for the fix:

http://forum.thewindowsclub.com/windows-8-management-support/33936-fix-dvd-drive-not-shown-windows-8-cp.html

Hope this works for you :)

I believe you can only edit your posts within five minutes, unless you have a Neowin subscription!

Did you follow the steps exactly from the link? i.e. running CMD as admin, entering and applying the reg entry and then rebooting the machine?

Otherwise it may just be that chipset issue you mentioned specific to your HP desktop; would be worth doing some more research on this but I believe the fix I posted above has worked for a lot of people with your exact issue.

Noted about the post edits lol...wasn't too sure about that one!

Edit: I didn't have this issue with my install of Win 8 CP, so I can't replicate it :(

yes i followed the steps 2 the t , your idea about switching the port s sounds like it could have an effect on it , i will try that , if there is a design flaw specifically for my chipset then i may be running into this problem because of the combination of that design flaw & windows 8 , i may even do a reinsatll & install those sata drivers while @ my hard disk selection @ the beginning of the install process, yes that reg fix may have worked for lots of ppl but could not be for me bc of the chipset/win 8 combo issue , but like i said i may just have to the sata driver install within windows 8 setup & see if that works.what ya think?

Yes it was something I had read on another forum for a similar issue, and it fixed it up for a few people also (a bit of an odd fix if you ask me though, but can't say that I'm surprised).

If it is a design flaw of the motherboard, there's not too much you can do about that at this stage as Windows 8 is still in the Beta phase (HP may release the correct chipset and/or SATA drivers later on though...).

At this stage it would be best to rule out a software problem, so try the reinstall with the SATA driver at the setup stage if you're up to it!

    • Microsoft releases Visual Studio Code 1.124 with smarter autonomous AI agents by Paul Hill Microsoft has just released Visual Studio Code 1.124 with a focus on faster agent workflows and improved agent autonomy. Microsoft outlined the following features as the key items in this update: Autopilot: Autopilot, enabled by default, is now smarter to determine when a task is truly done. Background sessions: Quickly send a request in the background and keep composing the next session. Session navigation: Search, jump, and step through agent sessions with the keyboard. Browser history: Revisit and search pages you've already opened in the integrated browser. With VS Code 1.124, Microsoft has enabled Autopilot by default. For those that don’t know, Autopilot is a chat permission level that you can pick to give agents permission to take initiative and act autonomously, without needing explicit user approval for each action. Also related to Autopilot, Microsoft introduced Advanced Autopilot, which changes how Autopilot decides when to keep iterating and when to finish. This helps you get more complete results without manually monitoring loops. This feature works using a small utility model that reads a transcript of the chat and decides when the task is done. Another new feature in 1.124 is the Agents window, which lets you easily explore, iterate on, and review agent sessions across projects and machines. Previously, starting a new agent session meant waiting for it to load before you could compose the next one. With this update, sessions can be requested in the background. This VS Code update also brings session navigation updates to switch between them more quickly. The update also lets you reload or reopen the Agents window so that it no longer loses your layout, so you will land back where you left off. If you use the integrated browser in VS Code, you will notice that it now retains the history of visited pages. Suggestions will now show when typing in the URL bar and can be managed by using Ctrl+H within a browser tab. The browser now also lets you customize the toolbar more; just right-click on the toolbar area to the right of the URL input. Finally, the browser has faster agentic text entry. Another improvement is experimental enterprise-managed Copilot plugin policies that allow admins to centrally control which chat plugins and plugin marketplaces are available to developers. If you have VS Code installed, 1.124 should install automatically, or you'll get a prompt. If you don't have it installed, get it here.
