Hi, Ive been using WHS2011 for a while now and have been wondering, with the forthcoming release of Windows 8 and Windows 8 Server (2012), will there be an update for WHS2011 ? I have no complaints regarding WHS2011 but am curious what Microsofts plans are ?

Not sure why they would as it's not that kinda server. WHS V1 was based on 2003 code, then 2003R2 came out then 2008 and no updates for those. Only after 2008R2 came out they relesed it so that's 2 without it.

Granted I do hope they do it also as it would benefit from the new storage features in Windows Server 2012!

I think Storage Spaces is in every version of Windows 8 though, not just server 2012. What Server 2012 does get is support for ReFS volumes which client Win8 won't get (at least not at the start, could come in SP1).

I think that WHS could be sold the same way they're going to sell Windows Media Center from now on, that is, as a extra package you pay a bit for and install on your Windows 8 box. I honestly don't see them keeping a seperate version of WHS around though they could do so as well as a more custom headless install. Only time will tell though.

I hope you're wrong. I want WHS on a dedicated box similar to the HP MediaSmart servers that WHS v1 came on. WHS is more than just an app - it needs to be low power hardware that allows drive swapping and can be hidden away and forgotten about.

Well, yeah, I mean it could be sold with hardware but I think MS could sell it as a pack to people who want to turn a Win8 box into a WHS as well. Like if you have an older PC a few years from now, just install the WHS pack and toss it into the closet.
