Samsung Galaxy S3 sees 9 million pre-orders

Its impressive considering the pre-order has been open only for few days and its not yet available in US

Yes you read that correctly, according to a report from ?Korea Economic Daily? a Samsung executive let it slip that 9 million units have been pre-ordered. Let that sink in for a minute. It wasn't that long ago that the Galaxy S II hit the 20 million mark, and now we have its successor reaching half that lofty goal ?beforeit's been released. Impressive to be sure, especially since the US, a large smartphone market, won't see it released until June at the earliest.

With Samsung taking the lions share of phone sales worldwide is there anything that can be done to stop their dominance in the market? With all the rumors, hype, and expectations leading up to the launch, we already knew Samsung would have a hit on their hands. Even after the initial euphoria wore off, we were still impressed with what Samsung has done with the Galaxy S III. While the vote was almost dead evenbetween this and the HTC One X, odds are good that the Galaxy S III won't get stuck in customs.

Pretty impressive, have no doubt the iPhone 5 sales will dwarf it though. Nobody (not even Samsung) can beat the Apple hype machine.

Yes this is a great thing for them and yes the Iphone5 or what ever will beat it. Average people just want the iphone. Hell I have had 4 android phones and I want an iphone now. All my friends, and gf and her friends that are not computer geeks want iphone.

but I am pleased this is selling so well. Why? because that is good for the market. Competition is good.

Competition is indeed good. Apple should try and embrace it for a change, instead of trying to sue their competitors off the market...

Impressive numbers for an entirely unimpressive phone.

phoneArena already posted a lengthy video review of it:

Yeah, I saw this yesterday. Pretty well in depth, even how he talks about the smallest details, like how you could get annoyed with the button placements and how you would normally hold the phone.

I highly doubt this is the amount of pre-orders customers have placed.

This sounds like the total amount all retailers and operators have ordered so far. It's still a lot, but I am completely sure there aren't anywhere near 9 million people who placed an actual pre-order for the Galaxy S3. Source? I work @ one of Europe's bigger phone retailers, and customers seemed to care about the Galaxy S3 more before it was announced than they do now.

Does it matter? It took them 5 months to sell 10 million S2. Fairly easy to understand that the new model will surpass that with ease.

Agreed.

I believe that the greatest Android phones would come a lot closer to beating the iPhone if there wasn't so many Android phones to choose from.

An autonomous AI system built by researchers at Amazon's A-EVO-Lab completed a full post-training run on a 30 billion parameter NVIDIA Nemotron model — with no human in the loop, across four rounds running over multiple weeks — and then did something its designers had not planned for: it detected that its own internal evaluation metric had become misleading and redesigned the search strategy it was using to improve itself. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319123/20260626/nvidia-ai-trained-itself-30b-model-corrected-its-own-broken-metric-mid-run.htm

    • If Ford would stop hiring SUITS to run the company, and put CAR GUYS back in charge perhaps they could do better. Heck, the only CAR they produce today is the Mustang. Hey Ford! Not everyone needs/wants an overpriced SUV or pickup truck that is so tall you have to have a step ladder to get in and out of it.
    • Amazing how some will just jump all over something. Probably the same people that thought Musk was a "tech god" before he saddled up with "bad orange man". Before, they worshiped at his feet, including a lot of so called hollywood types. Now, because he fell off the plantation truck, they toss him under the bus.
