Dim screen VAIO laptop

Recommended Posts

I just installed the windows 8 RC (RP?) on a sony vaio laptop and ran into an annoying problem: my screen is very dim.

I had the same problem when I cleaned installed windows 7 a while back, and after some googling, the problem was that Microsoft's default drivers (i.e. Intel's) do not recognize the internal sensor correctly, and thus dims the screen. The solution was to install Sony's modified video drivers. This did solve the problem in Windows 7.

The drivers install fine in Windows 8, but it has no effect on the dimness :(.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Another solution I found was to go into the Sony VAIO control center and disable dim screen automatically. But this isn't working under Windows 8 either.

In Windows 8, go to Power Options, click one of the side links about when to turn off the screen or whatever. I believe there should be an auto dim setting right there. If no, click advanced and it is in there. Had to do this on my Macbook Pro, but it isn't here so I can't get step by step instructions for you.

I "Enable adaptive brightness" off -- doesn't seem to help.

For now, I disabled the graphics driver, which helped the brightness but killed the resolution :(, so I'm sure the driver's the issue.
