If I'm going to update to this new Java, do I need to use Java's un-installer to do it, use windows add/remove programs, or just install it ontop of the old one? I currently have Update 29 installed, but Update 2 is there as well. Do I manually uninstall Update 2 from add/remove programs, then do the same for update 29, or would using Java's un-installer get rid of all previous Java releases? Do I then need to reboot first before I install the latest Update 33 or is that not necessary? I'm a lil worried when it comes to un-installing/re-installing stuff like Java or video cards. They can wreck havoc on your system if done improperly. I found that out the hard way when I used an un-installer program to un-install my video card drivers, then it wouldn't boot my system because of missing files. Maybe Java isn't as hooked into Windows as that was, but I'm still a little cautious. Thanks!

You do not have to uninstall .. just install/update on top the current installation.

why has java 6 not been dropped from support yet, java 7 is so much better so far (if there's something out there that's not compatible with java 7 those developers should get off their lazy asses and update their products)

Because, like I said to you in April, Java 6 has not reached the EOL date.

still stupid, just because it hasn't reached it's EOL date yet doesn't mean they can't start advertising 7 as the main version. you don't see Microsoft selling Vista as the main version still even though 7 is out and Vista hasn't reached it's EOL yet

Where do you see them not stating Java 7 as the main version?

In java.com they state: "Recommended Version 7 Update 5" and only Java 7 is made available via that site.

In Java SE Downloads the highest precedence goes also the 7 version... until November. At that point Java 6 will be moved to the Java Product Archive, and only Java 7 will be made available in that page.

For reference, this is their Java SE EOL Policy.
