Chinese boy has 'cat eyes' that can see in dark

Recommended Posts

This isn?t an episode of Heroes or X-Men, it?s even more amazing. Meet Nong Youhui

who has cat-like blue eyes and can see clearly in the dark. We first heard about him

in 2009 but now a video report by China?s CCTV has emerged online exploring the boy?s

phenomenal ability. Youhui lives in Dahua, southern China and according to the story,

medical tests conducted in complete darkness show he can read perfectly without any

light and sees clearly during the day. Hard to verify ? it is China after all ? but we are

intrigued.

Sounds like he was born with a tapetum lucidum in each eye. In animals the tapetum lucidum is a relective layer that sits behind or within the retina and reflects light back through the rods and cones for a second time, enhancing night vision. We see them as the "eyeshine" in a critters eyes when a light hits them. Humans don't normally have a tapetum lucidum, but it appears we have an X-Kid.

All the mothers are going to be lining up for him to mate with their daughters

Then China will have a super-race of soldiers with natural night vision

With their daughters? They still have those?

It would be cool if they could isolate the gene that causes this. Genetically engineered people in the future are going to be awesome...

Yes it would be awesome but I think that a practical example of how Darwinism works would be even better.

Would be funny if they kid turned out to be gay after all  TRY AGAIN NATURE (or maybe that's where Genetic Engineering comes into it).

Or maybe he is already genetically engineered from a secret experiment :alien:

False. It's just a recesent gene. His mother or a grad mother banged a blue eyed sailor. The boy maybe can see a little better in limited lighting, he's a child after all. The video looks highly un-scientific.

Quick grab the boy while no one's looking.

With things like this there is usually a draw back...

Did anyone else notice how he kept covering his eyes in the light?

The kid probably has light sensitivity issues and also suffers from headaches.

Evolution is always a tradeoff; people with sickle cell trait are resistant to malaria, but those with sickle cell disease (a much smaller number) have a shorter life expectancy, often dying in their 40's. Malaria is the greater threat where the trait evolved, so passing it on is a net benefit.

Humans must go the genetic way ... Why would humans still wait for the evolution to take place for 1mil years when we can make some changes now to ourselves as in eye, muscle, and maybe organs ... donate some eggs when young and sperm and when 2 people want a kid use those .... perfect ... no more OMG I am old and egg/sperm not good, since you have collected it in your prime time .....

Trademark so apple cannot touch me

Nature's a pretty harsh mistress in general. Of course not all evolutionary traits are beneficial but it's nice to be a beneficiary of the ones that are i'd wager.

Probably. Or maybe he really is more catlike than we think, and he squints in the sunlight because he has the urge to curl up and take a nap. >^. .^<

    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.

    • They have lots of info on me, I have a facebook account and have done so for years, it was the thing to have then. My phone number is not on it. I don't have the Facebook app on my phone these days, just the messenger part, and only for a couple of people to contact me, most will text me via SMS or phone. I agree, Meta, like others, even without an account will know something about me. Just have to try and keep some things private Also, never saw the need for Whatsapp, people used to ask for me to join it, but as I said to them, I have SMS and a phone, use that, or email
