Japlabot
Just being speculative here. Given that it is going to be a simultaneous release and the Windows release is going to be mainly streaming it using App-V, maybe they are porting App-V to Mac and then they will have a Windows & Mac release which are 100% compatible with each other rather than having to rewrite everything again for the Mac. Also the fact that they are going to backport Skydrive into Office 2011 rather than make it an Office 2013 feature suggests that they are going to keep Office 2011 as the supported "non-streaming" version, and Office 2013 as the streaming version. For those who use Macs, you got to admit that the quality control of Office for Mac has been slipping over the years (lots of bugs), maybe this is the future, and Mac users will finally get a full blown Outlook with feature parity to Windows. AStaUK
From what I've read so far there is no Office 2013 for Mac, they are just going to back port the SkyDrive feature. As far as bugs, so far I've been lucky as I haven't encountered any, but having feature parity with the Windows version would be nice. I'd also like to be able to export my Outlook files from Mac to Windows and vice versa rather than do a backup of if I want a fresh install of the OS. Aethec
The fact Office is streamed using App-V doesn't make it magically compatible with OS X. It still uses the Win32 API. (granted, they could make a translation layer like they did for Silverlight, but that'd be a huge amount of work) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1092035-office-2013-for-mac-streaming-the-windows-version/#findComment-595013753 Share on other sites
Manish
I'd finally be able to access Hotmail using Microsoft's own software (via Exchange ActiveSync) on my Macbook Pro. Hopefully the "proper" Office for Mac in 2014 (?) will also have a similar feature.
