Audi MPV confirmed for production - report

Could be launched in 2016

Audi's sales and marketing boss has confirmed the company will build an MPV.

Speaking with Autocar, Peter Schwarzenbauer revealed the model will be offered with six or seven seats.

He declined to go into specifics, but the magazine is reporting the model will be introduced in 2016 and ride on an enlarged version of the MQB platform. Insiders are also hinting it could wear the V (Vario) moniker and be badged the V4 (another rumored name is A4 SuperAvant).

A variety of engines are expected including a 1.8-liter TFSI with 180 hp (134 kW / 183 PS) and a 2.0-liter TFSI with 222 hp (166 kW / 225 PS). On the diesel side, there could be a 2.0-liter TDI with outputs of 141 hp (105 kW / 143 PS) and 175 hp (130 kW / 177 PS). There may also be a hybrid variant that features a 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) 1.4-liter TFSI engine and a 107 hp (80 kW / 108 PS) electric motor.
