How is the built in Amazon thingie?

Apparently it's going to be optional (as it should be). And is it just me, or are Ubuntu code names getting harder and harder to pronounce ? :s

In other news, Steam beta is arriving next week (woohoo!).

I stopped using the code names a while ago,..... I just use the numbers

Annoying to be honest. Just a case in point, random screenshot from a VM. Pops up when it's not terribly appropriate. On a media search, maybe, but while I'm launching a program, not so much. At least it's an easy thing to nuke. Sure, they need to make money just like everybody else, but this is just badly implemented.

^ Yea, I can see the shopping addition having a good use if they implement it properly. It certainly shouldn't be on the home lens though.

I wouldn't mind seeing a button that says "show me shopping results" instead of it automatically processing. I don't like the idea that anything I type will be sent over the waves.

Yeah, personally I'd be for amazon integration if it was implemented well, but random irrelevant results clogging up the dash home is just lazy. They should restrict it to its own lense, or to just the music/video lenses or something.

Trying the beta now. Man I really like so many things about unity, but the performance still isn't there. The dash and alt tab switcher take like 5 seconds or more to even open on a cold boot, the dash is quite laggy (for example dragging an icon from dash to launcher). And these are issues I've had with unity since it was first released.

I've noticed that 2D is better on the machines I've tested it with. I'm not sure if 12.10 still supports 2D though as I haven't tried it out yet.

For some reason it didn't find my wired network card. I like to be plugged in when I'm home

shame, I wanted to install with wubi, it doesn't seem to be active in this beta

I installed mine with wubi.

^^ Yea, I agree with the performance problems. Phoronix has some quick benchmarks on the performance regressions of Unity/Compiz http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=unity_66_performance&num=1

Though according to a couple of forum members over there, there will be several performance related bugs fixed in Unity 6.8 (shipping with Ubuntu 12.10). One of these is basically switching off the desktop composting when a full screen application is detected (good for games). Also, if bugs like this https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1049214 get fixed, that will make a big difference in frame rate on Nvidia cards.

Use --force-wubi as a parameter when you run it and you'll get the option to install in its wubitized mode.

thank you, i didn't know there was a flag i needed to enable

I've once again tried running the Live DVD, well, Live USB actually on my iMac. Like version 12.04 my wireless Apple Keyboard (bluetooth) won't lock on for any prolonged period of time. It connects, immediately disconnects again to moment I press a key. This a cycle which continues. I've tried it with my neigbours wireless Apple Keyboard (slightly older model than mine) and the same thing happens. The really odd part is my Magic Trackpad connects immediately and is ready for use. Same goes for my Magic Mouse I pulled out of mothballs. So obviously bluetooth is working just fine, just not in combination with my keyboard.

Does anyone have any thoughts what could be causing this? Maybe a setting I can try?

(A magic Terminal command perhaps? ;) )

For me it doesn't see my Ethernet card on my laptop, and I installed it using wubi, I also run it in VMare but it runs fine there. Is there anything I can do to get it to see my ethernet card?

WACUP 1.99.51.24568 Preview changelog: Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when doing some of the drag + drop actions within the media library window Fixed a loading crash seen related to a problem with some of the artwork cache image files being restored which should now be better handled allowing for the bad image to be removed without it failing Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when the internal metadata cache clearing is triggered which could block the main ui thread for too long with this now being moved to a background thread Fixed some performance issues with some of the methods related to determining artwork support which mainly affected the local library import / refresh (this is still slower for some compared to other players because there's more data & artwork aspects being checked for which means doing more processing on a single file despite the best of attempts to reduce duplicate / heavy processing where possible) Fixed a crash with the JTFE based missing files hotkey which no one seems to have used for an age for this to appear (maybe it's time to seriously consider stripping out features that aren't being used) Fixed how some of the file types which use extra information to reference their sub-songs is handled which was preventing some from being correctly resolved back to their base file (noticed fixing above) Fixed an issue with the handling of files with underscores in their filepath which wasn't being correctly handled causing some of the filename to be lost when shown as the title if title reading is delayed Fixed a few things that might be behind NotSoDirect not being stable for some setups though am still not certain that the changes done for this are going to fully resolve the problem from the crash reports Fixed the OS toast handling when there's no prior shortcut in the OS start menu to now create the shortcut (needed to allow the yes/no buttons for the new build / post-release toast) to be done as a hidden one so it's less likely to cause annoyance for those not wanting to see it whilst still allowing this less than ideal OS api implementation requirement to be met to avoid toasts without the needed buttons Fixed a regression when moving from taglib1 to taglib2 which broke some of the handling in place to allow for external programs to still access files when wacup has a held open cached instance of the file Everything else Updated cppwinrt (gen_win10shell.dll) to 3.0.260520.1 (26 May 2026) Updated libcurl (libcurl.dll) to 8.2.1 (24 Jun 2026) Updated Monkey's Audio (in_ape.dll) to 13.15 (28 Jun 2026) Updated mpg123 (mpg123.dll) to 1.33.6 (6 Jun 2026) Updated OpenSSL (libcurl.dll) to 3.5.7 (9 Jun 2026) Updated pugixml to 1.16 (16 Jun 2026) Updated taglib (tag2.dll) to 2.3.0 (11 May 2026) Updated vgmstream (in_vgmstream.dll) to the latest Git commit from 28 Jun 2026 Download: WACUP 64-bit | 9.6 MB (Freeware) Download: WACUP 32-bit View: WACUP Website | Screenshots Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
