Elliot B.
I've noticed two models of the Galaxy S III exist: Model #1: SoC - Samsung Exynos 4 Quad CPU - 1.4 GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 GPU - Mali-400 MP RAM - 1 GB RAM (international) Model #2: SoC - Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 CPU - 1.5 GHz dual-core Krait GPU - Adreno 225 RAM - 2 GB RAM (NA, KR, AU, JP) Which model is better? I live in the UK - which model will I get? I'm hoping the answer is that the UK gets the 2 GB RAM model, as 2 GB is obviously better than 1 GB RAM. tsupersonic
You'd probably get model 1. I don't think the RAM is the important difference - it's the CPU. You're really not going to notice much (if any) difference between 1 GB and 2 GB of RAM on an android phone currently.
ToneKnee
Look up some benchmarks, but I'll have a guess about it being your first option.
LittleNeutrino Veteran Posted September 30, 2012 Veteran Share Posted September 30, 2012 I would probably say the Korean Version simply because it has the Quad Core Processor AND 2Gb of ram However, benchmarks say the Verizon NA version is the best one. Korean version is dual core. With that said, I would still get the Korean version because there simply is no need for quadcore right now. Waste of battery life. And yes, 2GB ram will make a difference especially if you run a lot apps and does a better job of future proofing.
The Evil Overlord
It'll be most likely be the quad core with 1 gig of RAM (tho I heard a rumour that there's a quad core with 2GB RAM coming soon, but this is still a rumour and I've not heard anything else about it yet) I bought mine on day of release and that was the model I got, but if you're in doubt you carrier or retailer can verify this information for you. And if they promise you the quad core and sell you the dual core, you can always get your money back, it's within your rights. Also yes 2 GB RAM does sound better, but is unnecessary at this moment in time, my phone even under heavy use only uses up less than 800MB (gaming, and so on) and you can always close apps to free up memory if you really needed to. Edit, sorry, forgot to mention, that's 800 MB (or 776 MB in use) is also counting the amount of RAM reserved for system as pointed out by Nashy So the Actual amount of RAM being used by me approx.. 400-500MB or so Draconian Guppy and LimeMaster 2 Share
Nashy
My AU version only has 1GB, which according to the specs only has about 700MB available for use.
mrp04
2GB RAM version is better. Android is pretty unoptimized and I find that my Galaxy Note with 1GB RAM can barely keep 3 programs in memory. If I open chrome and then go open two or three other apps, Chrome will get unloaded from memory. Then when I open chrome I have to wait for it to load and the page to load again, then all the other tabs also need to be reloaded the first time you open them. Such a pain. 2GB RAM would solve this. The Snapdragon S4 is a really good chip.
SojIrOu
There is a new model coming soon with both the quad core and 2GB of ram in addition to LTE if you can hold out for it.

People keep pedalling this misconception, but more cores doesn't equal more battery drain. Not only can most multi core SOC's shut down cores that aren't in use they're designed to be efficient so a current generation quad will drain about the same battery as a current generation dual, and less than a previous generation dual. I'm pretty sure the UK will get the international version of the phone.

The Korean version is a quad core AND 2GB (LTE version). I know. I have one right next to me.
moloko
That why if I was getting this phone I would just buy it in Dubai instead of in the states.
