On two occasions I have received an error when Windows starts up. I typically leave my laptop computer on, but close the lid so that it goes into power save mode. Recently when I opened the lid and pressed the power button to bring Windows back up, a Windows recovery screen was displayed indicating that Windows did not properly shut down. I selected the option to start Windows normally, and then the next screen I saw was one that said Windows was unable to start and an error scan was in progress. The error scan completed, but the issue couldn't be fixed automatically and I was given the option to send the report to Microsoft. This all happened a couple of days ago. Again today, I opened the lid to the computer and pressed the power button. I got the recovery screen again, followed by the error scan. I've also noticed that in some instances, the harddrive light is remaining steady.

In both instances, Windows ultimately started. The key thing in both situations was that the computer was in standby overnight. If I leave the computer for a few hours and then bring it out of power save mode, it starts up without any problems.

I'm posting this in the hardware forum since I am thinking that this an indication of a harddrive failure. I just had the harddrive replaced about four months ago after it failed after just three years.

Can anyone help me out with this issue? I'd like to know if this is hardware or software related. This issue with Windows going into error recovery mode everytime the computer starts up after being left overnight keeps happening. The power setttings were changed to do nothing when the lid is closed, but the computer still goes into sleep mode. Once Windows can start properly, the harddrive light remains steady for at least five minutes, overall performance of the computer is very slow during this time, and a message comes up indicating Anti-virus was turned off.

You mite check and make sure you have plenty of free disc space , say 10 to 20 % . Maybe try setting it to shut down when you close the lid ,and try that for a time or two and see if the problem re-occurs . Just a thought on my part . I always set my laps to shut down when I close the lid , also ,I close everything up before shutting down .

    • Lol are you mad because I'm not using AI? I'd rather pay people than lose a bunch of potential customers and get humilated because I used AI. A lot of people won't purchase a game if it used AI during development.
