    • It's great! It gives multiple platform users variety and choice.

I was just reading about the platform-exclusive DLC (hereinafter PE-DLC) for the PS3 version of ACIII and was wondering what people thought of PE-DLC in general. A lot of PE-DLC I have seen has been pretty average, so I'm hard-pressed to see a real problem with having it, others have commented that it's one of the worst ideas in modern gaming.

Your thoughts? I also threw up a basic poll.

I only have one platform (PC) and I don't feel particularly punished, since my version is the best anyway :p :)

Exclusives and other artifical limitations suck in general. If it's as affordable as these things go these days, it absolutely cannot be considered an exclusive. Instead, it's a royal screwage.

It's probably as fair as it can get with timed exclusives. In which case, however, I, personally, would not participate in the rush and be gladly waiting. It partly destroys the purpose of the thing, though.

I hate both, exclusive and timed DLC. My brother and I love to talk about video games, and we usually play the same game at the same time, and when we have time to get together, we walk about it. But I have an Xbox, and he has a PS3. It really sucks when either of us cannot play something for timed reasons because I cannot talk about it until get gets it, which can be months prior. Exclusive is the same way.

It didn't bother me so much a year ago, but now it seems every single game is doing it, and it really ruins the conversation aspect of video games, sometimes.

Tired of these companies fighting over consumer's this way, when in reality it just ****es most of us off.

I dislike it, and unless I have very strong desire to get a game, then I'm liable to just skip it completely.

I can barely tolerate timed DLC (skyrim pc owner here...)

Yeah, PC gamers aren't punished with PE-DLC, just in every other way imaginable. Restrictive DRM, ****-poor ports, staggered releases, etc. :p

We'll say PE-DLC includes timed DLC as well in this discussion.

The last time I was bothered by DRM was probably over ten years ago.

Staggered releases in any timeframe that actually matters? Maybe twice.

The last bad port I played? ... I honestly can't remember. I was irritated about Burnout Paradise not getting the expansion DLC...

My only real PC gaming complaint is PhysX 2.6/7 games still coming out. 3.x fixed the x87 code issues. (2.8 might've also, don't know.) dx9 being the main release platform is also finally dying off.

Sold off my 360 a while back cause I never wanted to use it anymore.

It's dumb. If I buy a game I want it all, I don't want to have to play through a game on my Xbox and then have to play through it again on a PS3 to get the full experience. I've never actually done that though because if a game is going to be released with PE-DLC that is more than just an item or something dumb then I just don't play it. A brand new game costs a lot of money and if I'm going to fork out for it then it'll be for a game where I can play the full thing.

Depends.

The DLC from AC-Brotherhood didn't add a lot, just some extra playtime.

The DLC for Tomb Raider that was 360-exclusive basically gave the game's real ending.

If it's bonus gameplay that's not story-related, then I don't care. If it adds to story or lore, then I have an issue with it. Like, say, if a DLC for Mass Effect was exclusive to any platform, and added new lore or background (for instance, 'From Ashes'), then I'd be against it. If it's maps or multiplayer skins or things like that, who cares?

As far as AC3, there'll be enough SP DLC on all platforms that it won't matter.

It's bad. Just as bad as pre-order offers that differentiate between suppliers. It forces the buyer to go to extra lengths to get what others get for nothing, or forces them to get nothing at all.

It is very annoying. Some games have it and i could care less. However AC has it and it is my favourite game series this generation and even if the SP dlc is mediocre, i'd still want to play it just because it has a bit more story and extends gameplay time.

I own every platform and could get the PS3 version but i've always bought AC for 360 and would like to keep my collection to the one console. I really hope they release it for other platforms. Even if it is PC cause i eventually get it on Steam when it is in a sale anyway, to replay the game.

I've got a problem with DLC in general, not in that it extends the life of a game but in that developers seem to be holding back things so that they can offer it as DLC for some more money. The idea of having platform-exclusive content is even worse, it has the potential to remove features and stories from games, meaning that your game that isn't complete (due to DLC) now will never be complete if you don't have the right console.

Although it does not affect me per say as I have both consoles, it is absolutely one of the most moronic things ever done in gaming, especially something like this AC exclusive content. I can possibly excuse something cosmetic like exclusive costumes to each consoles. But one console getting full fledged content the other does not? That is not cool at all, and needs to stop.

As long as one of the platform owners pays for the content, it won't stop. Retailer specific preorder content is most likely the same deal.
