I use tablets mainly to read. Got tired of iPad 3 (weighs a ton) and some users here convinced me to give the Nexus 7 a try.

So far I'm very pleased! This thing feels like a feather, and Android, for the first time for me, runs like butter.

Also Matano Reader is finally up to quality compared to Good reader. Cant ask for much more. Any app recomendations?

Kindle is a must if you read books.

My main apps are Pocket, Feedly, SkyDrive, Box.net, OneNote Mobile, Patterns (which I just tested, is great for wallpapers), Tweet Lanes (great Twitter client, lacks push notifications at this time, but is not important for me atm), Tweedle is another good Twitter client, TuneIn Radio, Pinterest, Fancy....

The Nexus 7 is a great tablet. I use it mostly for reading books but the performance and responsiveness of Android with Jelly Bean's Project Butter is great.

I agree, Kindle is a must. I also use MXPlayer, Evernote, and IMDB. Plus I like the Dolphin browser because of all the addons that it has.

Try buying the latest Humble Bundle as it's also available for Android.

If you like to play games and also have a PS3 I would recommend getting the Six Axis app. Made playing GTA3 so much better!

I am new to Android too and also bought a nexus 7 and love it as much as you do. I find myself using it all the time and not my iPad. I got all the standard apps that I need like Bank of America, Facebook, and a bunch others. I also bought some games which run VERY good on the Nexus. I'd like to see an essentials list as all.
