Selling iPhone 5, getting Samsung Galaxy S 3

Recommended Posts

Good choice. Once I'm able to, I will be ditching my iPhone 4s and going back to Android (use to have a Droid X). I hate my iPhone, and now its essentially "falling apart" just outside of warranty (lock button stuck, speaker not loud anymore even though its at max, etc.).

I was a little dissappointed when they announced the Nexus 4 that it doesn't have LTE. Oh well though, its still a fantastic phone, as well as the S3 (although I'm not a fan for TouchWiz, but I would root that thing ASAP). :D

Oh, and this is why AOKP is coming up with a Malware Warning lately in Chrome, as they announced they were infected somehow by a third party.

Not really looking to buy, but just curious. Why not go for the Nexus 4 instead? Cheaper than the sgs3. Biggest benefit is immediate updates of new android versions. I had the sgs2 and it drove me insane that it took 6 months after ICS was announced for Samsung to release the update.

Two big reasons not to go for a Nexus 4, No SD Card slot, and No LTE

There is a reason why the government ditched Blackberry over iPhone and not Android:

Security.

Sorry but Android's security sucks. I have yet to see an iPhone get infected with malware or a virus.

Some people don't need massive amounts of storage or have expensive LTE data contracts.

Why should people who don't need it have to spend silly amounts of money for things they don't/won't use.

I have 16Gb Lumia and I barely use a quarter of the space, and I don't want to spend ?36 a month for 500MB LTE Data, or ?81 a month for 3Gb.

Got to love Sprint. $97/month for unlimited 4G LTE :)

And with my 16GB S3, I have already used up 11GB and have only 4.38GB remaining. Though, I do have some big games on it, like GTA3, Final Fantasy 3, NFS:MW, and every single NES and SNES and GBA game ever to be released..... damn I love this phone :p

You should pay attention more then. ;)

The SGS 3 is alright. It always comes back to that terrible pentile screen for me though. SMELTN, if I recall, you had a Captivate, correct? After that phone there's no way I wouldn't notice pentile now, and it just bothers me. Such a nice phone marred by such an inferior screen. One X for me all the way, though now they have the One X+ and the Nexus 4 as the next steps up. Making me a little jealous, but my One X still blows away almost every phone on the market.

I did and yeah that was kinda my worry was the pentile screen. I know the Note 2 doesn't have the pentile, but its just so dang big, and the One X looks like an amazing phone. I was thinking of getting the One X instead of the Galaxy S 3.

I will say this. It's not nearly as noticeable on their SAMOLED HD as it is on the original SAMOLED. I love the dark blacks and bright colors on the SAMOLED screens, but it IS noticeable if you are already know what you're looking for, and you and I obviously do being Captivate owners. I picked up a GNex when they first came out and it was the first thing I noticed. I've posted a couple of times on my thoughts between the SGS3 and the One X, and while I think it comes down to them both being fantastic phones, I'll personally take the One X over the S3 all day. The main drawbacks to the One X are the lack of removable battery (I could EASILY get 24 hours out of it though, so not a big deal), and the lack of a microSD slot, but I stream all my music and don't really need storage for anything other than that, pics and ROMs. I've been doing pretty well with the 16 GB so far. The screen on the One X is incredibly beautiful though. As far as the US market, the One X and SGS3 are just about identical internally except the SGS3 has 2 GB of RAM, which I find questionably useful at this point in the Android ecosystem. I just don't think too many apps need 2 GB unless you're a SERIOUS multitasker. I think the One X just lost the marketing game to the SGS3. I think it's at the very least on par, if not better. Run to the store and play with them both though and see what you think.

You can't really go wrong either way. I'd take the Nexus 4 over either (S4 Pro vs S4), knowing Google they won't be out of stock that long. As I recall they tend to go in and out of stock as they build up supply. I'd expect you could order one within a week. I'm with ya though. I'm not really anti-Apple, but I just find their phones boring and less useful.

The grass always seems greener on the other side but would be interested in your experience after some time owning the Galaxy S3.

Personally I would advise against it because I would want the stock Android experience as it is pretty good and TouchWiz is horrible in comparison. I know you can throw a custom ROM but I'd still buy a Nexus device because they get the new versions of Android first.

I am just so leary of the Nexus 4, just because its an LG, no LTE and its limited storage. I just think its not were it needs to be and just like with the Nexus 7, they will release an update soon enough that will make the 16 gig with LTE be the same price as the current 8gig model.

I'd say go test out an S3 and which ever other phone you are thinking about. To me, the display is just fine. But others are more picky on little almost unnoticeable details :p

world wide market share shows that android dominates. from 3q2011 to 3q2012 android grew from 52% market share to 72% while ios shrunk from 15% to 13& soon only apple cult members will have ios devices.
