How to bypass prerequisites checks using orca

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

was wondering if anyone could help me.

am trying to install Norton Internet Security 2007 on my windows 8 Pro x64

. Previously it worked on my windows 7 x64 ultimate just by using compatibility mode as vista now I am getting the following message

Setup cannot continue because there was a problem authenticating your Microsoft Windows Installer

when I checked the log file in the %temp% directory this is what I got.

I have tried opening the msi files with orca but I cannot for the life of me work out with line I have to disable or drop.

I also thought about trying a custom action to bypass checks but do not know which command to use.

any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

thx in advance

yeah thx guys but because I have started doing this I would really like to work it out just for my peace of mind to know that I have at least been able to do it.

any advice in how to accomplish this please ?

What I would really like to learn is where the prerequisite check is so I can disable it in orca

Norton Internet Security 2007 isn't certified for or designed to run on Windows 8. There is no reason to expect it to work properly - it's not designed to. So trying to force install it won't really be a useful thing to have worked out how to do - it's just a way to introduce potential complications to a healthy system.

What singularity said.

Not all updates to AV suites are just to milk money out of you >.<

You'll need to buy a more recent version of the software as there have been ENORMOUS architectural changes in Windows that your AV needs to be aware of.

Well for starters, I would stol using Norton, even more so an old version..

Just install Microsoft Security Essentals, less of a resource hog, and better, and free.

Well any norton 2009 version and never uses at lest as little resources and MSE, most likely less and provides better and more compete protection.

MSE is great, but norton is better, though if I didn't get norton free once or twice a year, I'd just use MSE.

And this, just run a new up to date norton, depending on your license you might be able to download the trial for the latest norton and use your existing license.

No idea how to force install other than possibly using the -f switch in Run ? (Not even sure if that is the correct command)

But as most have already suggested, MSE or any other free AV such as Avast would protect you a whole lot better than an ancient Norton, asking for trouble installing that on any machine/OS these days

Sorry, I won't help you brick your system.

Easiest way to bypass it, update your AV :D After all, yours is only 6 years old now. No viruses could get past it >.>

So you wont help me or you don't know. I just wish to learn how to do it is that to much to ask ? if my sustem becomes unstable I will just reformat and place a new av suite on it no probs I just want to learn how to do this

Not sure why you would even want to learn how to....It would be useless to even understand or have the slightest chance of doing so. Only thing possible from this is a corrupted windows 8 install, as changing core files or manipulating windows into thinking something different will 99.999999999% shaft the system.

Why are you running windows 8 yet running an old AV? If you like the old way why not stay with XP/Vista or 7? -.-

I put on it on my second system that I just use to experiment with but my main system is untouched everything on it is good and untampered with.

this system however I just use to muck around on and practice and experiment with software and l try to learn new things

So can u guys help me please.

This is more for knowledge on navigating and playing with orca nothing else

if it's for knowledge why use such an old outdated version?

I used to hate norton, but ever since 2009, their software is geeting better and better and their 2011+ versions are great. its not the old days when norton was a huge resource hog.

I personally use the endpoint protection from symantec, probably the best AV/firewall package you can get.

if it's for knowledge why use such an old outdated version?

because I wish to learn how to do it with older versions Norton 2009 and above all work on win 8 no problems I just wish to see how to get Norton internet security 2007 to install.

guys please ....... rather than asking me why could you please help out with a resolution on how to install it.

I just want to know ..

if you cant help me just say so rather than just telling me to update because I have the latest version but I wish to try the oldversion on the practice pc.

Have you tried going into safe mode and running it in compatibility mode for say XP? If it's one thing I know how to do best and you can ask anyone here, is bork my system. My old philosphy: "If it ain't broke, fix it till it is." My new philosophy: "If it ain't broke, then leave it the Hell alone!"

AV's work on such a low level they NEED to be specifically coded for the OS/KErnel they're running on. Norton 2007 doesn't even know where to begin looking for stuff in the Win8 kernel, much less what it's doing in there when it's trying to hook in.

It will NOT work, it WILL break the system, there is NOTHING to be learned from forcing it to install.

OP:

From:

VerifyFile on MSI exec failed

No catalogs containing the hash for file 'C:\Windows\system32\msiexec.exe' passed WinVerifyTrust().

ProcessDWORDOption not found

it looks like this is less of a problem with prerequisite checks and more a problem of the msi itself being screwed up O.O

    • Limited Prime Day deal sees Amazon Echo Show 11 is at its lowest price yet by Ivan Jenic The Amazon Echo Show 11 is currently $149.99 on Amazon during Prime Day, down from $219.99. That's 32% off and $70 saved on Amazon's newest mid-size smart display (purchase link below). As its name suggests, the Echo Show 11 features a 11” Full-HD touchscreen, which is a decent upgrade over the Echo Show 8. It offers 60% more viewing area, which makes a genuine difference for recipes, calendars, video calls, or any other scenario where the smaller display can feel a bit cramped. The Show 11 is built around Alexa+, Amazon's more capable AI assistant that can handle natural conversation. You can make reservations, order groceries, and find content based on your preferences, instead of always having to give it precise commands. There’s also the Omnisense technology, which adds ambient awareness, allowing the device to trigger routines based on temperature, presence detection, or visual cues. Smart home control is built in without needing a separate hub, and the home screen doubles as a photo slideshow when not in use. Taking all of this into account, the Show 11 is a perfect smart addition to your kitchen counter or living room. At $149.99, this is a strong Prime Day buy for anyone already in the Amazon ecosystem or looking to build one out. • Dang that sucks. I just started using this feature instead of Pushbullet.
    • I use my devices until the very end. I used my old desktop computer for 16 years, my OnePlus 5T phone for 8 years and my LG Gram laptop for 7 years. Even though they are still working, there are no more security updates for most of them (Windows 7 ESU, Android 12 ROM and the LG Gram because I wanted an ARM based laptop).
