+Byt Subscriber¹ Posted November 20, 2012 Subscriber¹ Share Posted November 20, 2012 Hey All, I am in abit of a dilemma, my XFX4890 is showing signs or failure, so i am now using an old 8800GTX. I only play World of Warcraft and Counter Strike: Global Offensive, so not massively graphical games to be fair. My system runs these games pretty well, around 150+fps in CS:GO and since the 8800GTX i get around 40-60fps in WoW, it use to be higher with the 4890. I have a Core2Duo E6850 @ 3GHz with just 4GB of RAM and a Crucial M4 SSD, Its a pretty old setup i have had since 2008! But it seems to run great for what i use it for... My dilemma is do i upgrade to something like a Nvidia 650ti now or do i save the money and buy a new mobo / cpu / ram / gpu around Christmas time when there should be some good deals on, however if i buy a new card now... i could use that in a new system in the future... but then the card will be out of date! Its like a catch22, plus Christmas is expensive for me as it is... and the word "Christmas Bonus" this year is met with angry faces. So i just wanted some opinions really on what you would do, because i only play the two games... i don't think i need massive amounts of power, however maybe i dont know what im missing by not having a high spec machine, i suppose if i played WoW on a i5 / 16gb / 650ti setup i would notice a huge difference and wonder how i managed for so long! Honest opinions welcome :) x
Muhammad Farrukh
I don't think newer cards, from both the companies, are likely to get in the market until next year, so its safe to say that you'll be good with 650 Ti as you please. 8800 is still a great card. If it plays your games above 40 fps, you won't notice the difference in real time, when you upgrade
threetonesun
What else do you use the PC for? Also, I'd get a 7850 over a 650 Ti. Crisp 1 Share
remixedcat
Upgrade that GPU ASAP lots of those have been kickin the bucket and going to the big LAN party in the sky.... Mine was on the way out... I just built a new system and I think it's worth it all ready. I have the 650Ti and it's a very good value card. Highly recommended. Also your processor is decent specs wise but it's the LGA775 type which is older. Here's my specs and the price I got them at and I highly recommend you check out microcenter they are haveing some sweet deals right now on the i5 3570K's they are 225$ but I got mine for 169$! threetonesun
TIL remixedcat and I have basically the same PC. I'd still go for a 7850 over a 650 Ti. The 1GBs versions are the same price (if not less with rebates) as the 650 Ti: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150617 And the 2GB ones are only slightly more. remixedcat and Crisp 2 Share
f0rk_b0mb
My uncle had two 9800's (9800 and 8800 are the same card. The only difference is the box they come in and the sticker on them.) in SLI and one of them borked last year on him. I got my 550TI for a 100 bucks and I would highly recomend it to you if that's all the games you play. http://pcdirect.com/spnvgegtx56f.html I would have gotten the 560, but I'm on a romen noodle everynight budget. :)
