Lehigh Acres, FL (News-Press) -- The gray and silver terrier mix may have fought and thrashed to escape before it died, but didn't have a chance.

The dog was found hanging from a large oak tree in Buckingham on Wednesday and police and animal services officials are seeking information from the public about the circumstances surrounding its death.

The dog may have been hanged while alive, according to the Lee County Domestic Animal Services incident report and Glenn Johnson, animal services operations manager.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office received two calls about 8 a.m. Wednesday from area residents and notified animal services, Johnson said. The animal was discovered in an area of dirt roads on the east side of Homestead Lane between Staley and Neal roads.

Its leash was tied to a nylon rope, the report said.

The adult male dog had marks around its neck, and appeared as if the dog had thrashed around trying to escape, Johnson said. A necropsy will be performed to determine the exact manner of death.

"It's a felony charge, a third-degree felony for someone to intentionally kill an animal, especially this way," Johnson said. "That would be a nasty individual who would do that to any living being." :(

Anyone with information is asked to call Animal Services at 239-533-7387 or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-8477. You can also text Crime Stoppers.

"All you hope is that somebody talks about it," Johnson said.

It boggles my mind when I hear about this kind of thing, or animal cruelty in general. How could anyone do this to an animal? :(

I thought I was going to stay in Fribourg this weekend, but now I want to head back to Geneva and see my dogs.

As a dog owner, the man or woman that did this should be charged with murder, because it is murder, but they don't consider it murder because the dog is not human.

Why the hell would you do this to a dog? This is boggles my mind of how sick (in the bad term) this is. I hope whoever done this goes to jail. This is not a cool thing to do with a living creature especially man's best friend...

Find them, hang them from a tree, skin them alive, poor vinegar over them, shoot them.

I'm a firm believer for dogs & cats and other domestic pets should be treated as human, then if anyone kills them etc they should be charged as if it were a human.

Agreed

This isn't even human. It's sub-human.

Agreed

But we can murder innocent babies and that is ok? While what this moron did was reprehensible, where is the outrage when human life is snuffed out in the womb?

babies aren't babies till they can survive outside the womb i think is the thought behind it.

As a dog owner I find this sick, hope they catch the person/people responsible for this.

Sadly enough, where I live it's pretty common to feed your dog only the scraps that you have as a left over, not walk them, kick them, throw rocks at them,....

It's very sad to see, funny enough, like many here posted, people who have no respect for animals have no respect for human life.

Only a week ago a very well respected person from our little community got brutally murdered for petty cash.

Didn't realize babies could survive by themselves outside the womb!! Tell me, how did you get to the age you are? Fed and clothed yourself. Changed your diapers yourself? Last time I checked a baby in the womb is still a baby and thus a life.

i forgot to add the limit of the 12-24 week limitation of abortion in most countries. As in they can't survive no matter how much we try to help.

No, because that would mean killing animals for meat would be murder as well. If you're suggesting that simply because the manner of death was cruel does that mean you'd be okay if the animal had been killed in a humane way?

As with most things, humans are very hypocritical in their values.

Last time I checked a baby in the womb is still a baby and thus a life.

Personhood begins at birth when a baby's life becomes independent to that of the mother. The arbitrary restrictions on abortion are a religious anachronism and termination should be allowed at any point until birth.

    • I and many others did not vote to get out of the E.u because of Putin or Farage, we did so for our own reasons. You don't have to tel me what my own did or did not do when it comes to the E.U. The EEC is or was the European Economic Community, a different beast to what the E.U is now.The EEC was a mainly about trading, the E.U have gone far beyond that and as I have said before, is now more of a United States of Europe. The U.K did not vote to join a United States of Europe. Anyway, they did not want us in there in the first place, Charles de Gaulle stopped us joining as he claimed we didn’t agree with the core ideas of integration. He was not wrong and that is why we voted out of the E.U when the time came. I was not old enough to vote the first time. My only regret is that we did not have the referendum years ago and got out years ago. If we rejoined, we would have to agree to join the Euro and no doubt Schengen, agree with freedom of movement, we have enough problem with people coming over here as it is. i have no problem with people coming over here if they work and don't try to push their way of life onto us. The E.U has a currency, freedom of movement, an anthem a flag, a parliament, well they are there, not sure if they do anything. Don't sound like something that is just for trading. Oh yeah, also wanted a euro Army. How many stupid rules have the E.U made that we had to follow? I doubt I will see the Uk rejoin the E.U, which suits me. Oh yeah, my partner is Polish, she came over here before Poland joined the E.U and she got fed up of people just coming over here with ease, while she had to struggle. She is now a British citizen and have been for a fair few years
    • Hello, Paul. Thanks for the editorial. It was interesting. I'm going research more into the app and its concept. Of course, if you know me at all, you know that I'd say your articles needs some editing! I a;ways do, don't I? For instance, the article occasionally mentions a concept before defining it, e.g., relays.
    • Screamer is 50% off on Steam, making it £24.99 here in the UK: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2814990/Screamer/ You might remember the series from the mid 90s / early 2000s, this new game is also by Milestone who created the older games.
    • U.S. partially reverses Anthropic AI ban for Mythos but keeps Fable 5 off the market by Karthik Mudaliar Anthropic says that the U.S. government has finally allowed it to restore Claude Mythos 5. But of course, there's a catch. The rollout is again for a limited set of U.S. organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. The company announced this in a post on X (formerly Twitter). This does not mean that Anthropic's latest frontier models are back to normal availability. Fable 5, which was a tuned version of Mythos 5 for public release, remains unavailable. Anthropic said that it is still working with the government to expand Mythos 5 access and make Fable 5 available again, but there's no timeline. Reports from Bloomberg and Reuters say that this decision actually came through a letter from the U.S. Commerce Department. According to Reuters, this would allow more than 100 companies and institutions access to Mythos 5. Reuters also reported that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s letter removes the need for export licenses for approved companies’ non-US citizen employees, as well as Anthropic’s own non-US citizen employees, while restrictions remain for organizations outside the approved list. Anthropic isn't alone with this kind of controlled rollout. OpenAI's newest model family, GPT 5.6, was announced just yesterday, but isn't available for everyone yet. In its announcement, OpenAI also said that access to these models is initially limited to a select group of trusted partners and organizations, with broader access planned later this year. Both of these cases show that frontier AI launches are no longer just ordinary product releases and more like slow and vetted deployments shaped heavily by the U.S. government.
