Is there any program that can do this quickly? I can't seem to find anything on the internet. I like MKVs but I hate the default WMP icon when browsing my library. Thanks for any help!

If you install the DivX MKV codec pack, it should show the video preview instead of the default app icon. It worked on Windows 7, and when I upgraded to 8 it stopped. I reinstalled the pack and got my previews back.

This looks brilliant since it just changes the container without touching the streams. The fastest, easiest and best option (quality-wise)!

Shark007 Codecs works great for me. Been using it for many many years now, and is always updated.

It's just a remux operation (demux the streams from inside the MKV container and put them into an MP4 container), this doesn't require actually re-encoding/transcoding which is what would require an amount of time given some variables and settings. Avidemux can do it easily (just copy from one container to the other), but the MKVtoMP4 thing seems to be useful as well, albeit incredibly huge (the amount of software included) just to do a simple remux operation.

This isn't post related, but how come you have a picture of my cousin as your avatar? Are you from Vancouver, BC? I doubt you are Jaime Koeppe. An avatar is supposed to be a picture that represents your self too.

why dont you just assign another program for MKV files? Its funny to convert videos just because you dont like WMP icons :D

Shark007 Codecs gives mkv files thumnails. That was actually the reason I installed it. I also didn't like not having a thumbnail image, just looked awful not having one.
