Hate The TouchWiz UI? Here's a Great, Super Fast Replacement

"Here, we?ll show you how to replace Samsung?s TouchWiz UI with a launcher version of Google?s vanilla Jelly Bean UI. It?s an easy process that?s over in moments and rids you of TouchWiz for good."

I got it and it works great. Super, super smooth and fast.

Or just link to the launcher in question? It's nothing more than an app.

Yes I know its an app, but its a damn good one. I have tried many of the launchers on the Play store and none compare to this. Very, very smooth and lightning fast. Very configurable. An excellent app and a great replacement for that horrid TouchWiz.

I prefer Apex Launcher.

And for the record: TouchWiz is more than just the launcher, it's infested the whole UI.

I agree. I can't understand why Samsung can't just simply leave the UI alone and not use that horrid TouchWiz

They call it differentiation, we call it destroying the experience.

What makes me laugh is that people buy a phone with a proprietary UI overlay and then go to great lengths to remove it or work around it. Not exactly sending the right message to the manufacturers to make them stop doing this crap as their formula is clearly working (and people are still buying the phone).

Do the right thing, vote with your feet and buy a Nexus device with a pure version of the OS - and then the manufacturers will get the message and stop destroying an otherwise very good UI with their customisations.

Disagree. I much prefer my S2 over the equivalent nexus. Just rom it and job done.

Root and install CyanogenMod 10. :p

+1, however CM10 for the GSM S3 is not perfect. NFC is not working on the latest nightlies, and it has a few other minor bugs.

My friend still loves it a million times more than the stock rom with Touchwiz however!

I have to agree with xendrome. I love Nova Launcher for my S3. Its the best launcher for me and I have used them all.

Here is my current. I am using AOKP Rom, Nova Launcher with Suave icons.

Clearly you don't disagree - because if you did you'd run a stock TouchWiz experience that Samsung supplies.

But its just like Jailbreaking. We (people who mod our phones and remove the default launcher) are an extremely small percentage of the market. Buying a Nexus is NOT the answer for most, I for one didn't get one due to it basically copying the iPhone with its latest Nexus 4. (Glass back, no removable battery, expandable storage and no LTE support?) No thank you.

True, but I still got a Nexus because the value can't be beat. $299 for an off contract phone, with a quad core processor (overkill) and 2 GB of RAM? You bet I want a piece of that action.

I'm using T-mobile, so the Nexus not have formal LTE support (though LTE can be enabled, probably destroys battery life though) isn't a big deal to me since T-mo doesn't have LTE, but does support HSPA+42. I currently have an HTC One S, so a non-removable battery and non-expandable storage has yet to bother me. I've only used 2 gigs of space, no need for a 32 GB microSD over here :p

Back to the OP, I've been using Holo Launcher HD on my HTC One S since it was released.. love it!

My point was totally missed - the more people buying handsets with a stock Android experience, ignoring those with a customised experience, the more manufacturers will be encouraged that this isn't positive differentiation and offer a stock Android experience. I wasn't suggesting that the Nexus was the only decent Android phone out there, but it is the only one that offers a stock Android experience. I totally get that the Nexus range isn't the answer for everyone.

Never going to happen though - but would mean more handsets would get timely upgrades to new versions of Android too...

I just recently flashed to CM10 on my SGS1, and it's awesome, however, I will admit, there are times when I miss TW. But now that I've learned the included holo launcher with CM10, there's no way I'd go back personally, but that's just me. I'm sure there are better launchers than the one included in CM10, but it works for me pretty well, and I don't have too many problems with it.

No need to root your phone and risk damaging it or break it to the point that its useless. Why not simply use another launcher and be happy? That one I posted is pretty awesome and lightning fast.

The only thing I dislike about TW is that the menus and the color theme is ugly. Other than that, the new Natural UI (I guess that's the new name) is much better than what TW once was.

Also it is a lot more bug free compared to CM10. The small bugs on CM10 are pretty much annoying in everyday use and I think the trade off for the Natural UX ugly menus and colors are worth it.

If it really bugged me out, I could make use of custom ROMs based on TW... But that is not important anymore :)

I prefer Apex Launcher.

Yep another vote for Apex Launcher, I used Launcher Pro for years when I had the Desire, but since changing to the Xperia S I've found that Apex is great.

    • Apple reportedly looks to blacklisted Chinese memory chips as RAM prices climb by Karthik Mudaliar Image via Apple Apple is reportedly trying to get a clearance from the Trump administration to buy memory from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) to get some relief from soaring DRAM prices. As per a report by the Financial Times, Apple approached the Commerce Department more than a month ago and also spoke to other officials and allies in Washington. For starters, CXMT is a company that's already been placed on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies. The Chinese company is the country's top DRAM maker. For Apple, the timing is certainly awkward but not surprising. Tim Cook had recently warned that Apple would have to raise prices because AI companies are buying up large amounts of memory for data centers, and just like that, Apple raised MacBook and iPad prices. Micron also recently revealed that customers have committed billions of dollars to secure memory supply years in advance, which shows us how aggressive securing infrastructure has become. This gives suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron more leverage, while pushing hardware makers to look for alternatives. CXMT is one of those alternatives, but not the simplest one. Apple has spent many years trying to diversify parts of its supply chain away from China, especially for final assembly, while still depending heavily on Chinese manufacturing and suppliers. Even domestic brands from China are moving towards CXMT and YMTC instead of relying on Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix. For Apple, though, it would invite more scrutiny than local Chinese companies. For now, this is more like a lobbying effort rather than a confirmed supply deal. There's no official statement from either of the parties. What is clearer, though, is the pressure behind such a request. AI demand has certainly made hardware a bottleneck, and companies are trying everything they can to bring things back to normal, even if that means making politically sensitive choices. • I did test it a month or so back, but ... the results I expect to be on the first page are not there.
    • Neowin is saying these are good prices? Thats crazy. As others have said they are just ######. Time for big tech to bring down the prices for real not this fake crap.
    • The iFlyTek AINote 2 is among the thinnest E-Ink tablets. It has an EMR stylus, a built-in fingerprint reader, and plenty of built-in AI features. You had me until "and plenty of built-in AI features." That and any company that still does the iProduct naming trope is an immediate pass. It suggests the company isn't very imaginative or creative and is trying to piggyback off another company's success. Extremely lame. Also kind of expensive. Better choices at lower prices out there.
    • These are not "great" prices... just "less awful". Apparently "Those who forget the past are doomed to pay higher prices and think they've won."
