Twinkies are going out with a bang and not a whimper, both online and at a Chicago grocery chain that bought up the last batch.

With iconic baker Hostess closing up shop -- at least until a new buyer saves it from bankruptcy -- the Windy City's Jewel-Osco chain bought up the last shipment of Twinkies, as well as Hostess' lesser known treats, Ding Dongs, Zingers and Orange Cupcakes. More than 20,000 boxes of Twinkies and roughly 5,000 boxes of Ding Dongs, Zingers and Orange Cupcakes — were flying off the shelves late Monday and early Tuesday.

The confections will be sold at regular price with no limits on how many customers can buy until the shelves are barren, Siemenas said.

“Most of them have already run out of Hostess products,” he said. “The phones have been ringing steadily at our stores.”

In the mountain town of Stanley, ID (live about fifteen miles from) the little grocey store here hasn't had any for over a month. Oh well, as a diebtic I couldn't eat them anyway. . . :broken:

The only Hostess product that I really enjoyed was their fruit pies.

I'm disappointed that there wasn't much time to get your last fix of twinkies... I mean, we had like 1 month's notice if that... Now unless you're a millionaire, you can't get your hands on a twinkie to save your life.... Sure you could make one, but god knows the twinkie pans will probably be sold for hundreds of thousands too... This sucks.

Forget what I just said.... I just won 2 boxes of Twinkies for $20 on ebay... I'm happy if this is going to be my "one last Twinkie fix." If another company buys the brand and makes em 6 months to a year down the line, that would be awesome, but if not, at least I can say I had one of the last original Twinkies on earth. :-p
