After seeing someone with blue soft keys on their Nexus 4, I thought I'd try my hand at it. So I followed this guide.

I got a warning saying this was designed for Android 4.0 (I was running 4.2.1) but I proceeded anyway. The tweak completely removed the soft keys. Having a Nexus you'll understand this makes navigating the phone rather challenging. I had to find a Factory ROM (As Google had taken the default ones down).

So all this at 5AM, finishing at 7AM left me back at square one. I am brand new to Android though so hopefully learning this the hard way will be for the best.

remember always backup before you install any mod. it will be very helpful and save you from lot of trouble.

Backing up didn't restore the soft keys for me. I had to flash the ROM again.

Backup the whole Rom in recovery (CWM or whatever for your phone) will restore the Rom as it was.

Always backup your whole rom/system partition using something like clockworkmod. Titanium backup won't protect you against rom changes.
