Cheap Android Tablets

Recommended Posts

I know, I know... 6 months ago I would have berated me for asking this - you get what you pay for...

Except I have seen a fair few ?60-100 Android tablets that were PERFECTLY usable since then.

Am looking for something for my neice to play angry birds on basically, put some cartoons on, etc.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Looks ok, but if you want to get something a bit better then look here

http://www.androidinabox.com/android-tablets.html?t_dualcore=238&t_market=162&t_ram=39&t_size=42

I filtered it to show only official Google Play and 1Gb of RAM

This one cost wise is the closest and much better, spec wise

eBay it up and see if you can get it for a good price

I've never come across one which is particularly nice to use.

I would advise you try to find yourself a used Nexus 7 or Galaxy Tab 7 - the difference is night and day.

I bought one of those for my Dad for Xmas and had a play with it before wrapping it and its a snappy little thing, I was pretty impressed considering the price

I think the lower screen resolution helps with the lower power so you don't really lose much performance compared to higher spec and rez tablets

Take a look at these, http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/tabletpcs/tabletpcs/?o=1

Nova tech is a local supplier to me but they are also based in Reading, Cardiff and Bristol, they are very good at delivery speeds. I have bought my 8 year old son one of the 7" tablets, unfortunately it isn't available any more but there is a small 4.3" one there too.

Implying this was last year? I am not expecting the world. Not expecting a Galaxy Tab spec LOL - but just so long as it's usable for a child really. Play music, read books, play angry birds, etc!

But yeah, not being cheap but was looking around the 60-70 quid mark purely because it's a second gift. Not looking at 100 quid...

For this Xmas, its currently wrapped under the tree !

The only thing I found and was not even a problem, Google Play does not come installed, you have to download it from a different market that comes with the tablet, pretty straight forward and only took a few minutes and a reboot

Plays HD video smoothly, games like Angry Birds run great, the homescreen UI is fast and smooth even with a live wallpaper, I was seriously impressed comparing it to my ASUS Transformer which was much more expensive

EDIT - If you can put up with this irritating guys voice, and repeating himself over and over, there is a pretty full review he does here

    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
