Gun Sellers have a perfect business model in the USA.

Salesperson: You see that guy over there? He just bought a AR15!. What if he comes to your house to try to assult you? You need to counter him with two AR15's so you can guarantee you have more fire power then him. What do you think god gave you 2 trigger fingers right?

American: You are right, give me 2 for me and 2 for my wife. How many bullets did he buy?

Sales person: 1000 rounds

American: Better give me 2000!

God Bless America's Guns!

On another note would it be considered offensive if that was a Car Commercial listed on the same page as an article about a multi-car pile up? Somehow I doubt it.

Not seeing anything wrong with it here.

Squinch harder.
Article: Shooting at school story
Ad: Buy guns for Christmas! Hooray!

If you don't see why this isn't a bad placement then... idk lol

It might be you're not bothered by it (I'm not either), but I guess both of us are capable of realizing many will get a feeling of rejection by this and hence, the ad might be less positive as the marketing department (or whoever does their marketing) might have wanted it.

Marketing isn't all about what's allowed and what not, obviously this is not breaking any laws, however marketing is targeted to people and their emotions, so the effect of the ads rely heavily on what people accept or don't.
So yeah, this ad does suck at achieving any brownie points.

Doesn't bother me ...

If you your kids were shot and killed I am sure it would.....

This was probably done on purpose, sell lots of newspapers and then then issue an apology!

Never ever imply someone's hypocritical before they show they are.

You are not sure. If you think you are, you're possibly misguided by prejudice.
If you're not sure, don't say you are.

On top of that, you can't always cater to everyone's current feelings.
While I do think we should all try to be as humble as possible to each other, respecting others' feelings, I don't believe we should all be all "omg!!!" about whatever might come up unintentionally insensitive.
Neither should we restrict ourselves from freedoms or imply it's the only right thing to do.

There's nothing wrong with it per se, it's just a matter of bad timing :\

I figure most newspapers sell the ad space ahead of time to secure money from advertisers. Would have been nice if the newspaper asked the advertiser if they could postpone the ad temporarily, or relocate it to a different page

All I can say, to your lame attempt at castigation, that it is so pompous as to not elicit any further response from me!

I know the ad was placed in advance but someone should have noticed and pulled it. That's terrible timing.

No because cars are a mode of transport, guns have only one purpose. What a moronic statement.

Couldn't this be a software error cause with all the ads in newspapers surely the selection is an automated process so it picked up on words like "shooting" and then chose that ad?

Agreed. No one besides a couple people would probably get a chuckle.

Ummm... how does that even happen? No one checks this before it goes to print?

Looks like the newspaper was using Google AdSense.
