In the mobile site, in the address bar, the favicon has the Neowin logoo on a white background. Why not make it a transarent PNG?

What device/os are you using. Sounds like your browser just doesn't support 24bit favico's.

Lool If it was a transparent PNG you wouldn't see anything. But anyway, Favicons are icons. I agree with Timan and believe it's more to do with your browser.

I doubt he meant fully transparent.

erm there is only one state of transparency and that is 'fully' transparent. Anything else is either with transparency, translucent or opaque.
